Las Vegas Raiders vs. Jacksonville Jaguars Hall of Fame Game odds

The Raiders are favored by 2.5 points in this matchup against the Jaguars. Neither team will be starting their most talented players, making this a game more about their depth than their stars. For as much as we’d love to see Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne, Derek Carr, and Davante Adams, their 2022 season premieres will have to wait.

Viewers may not be too familiar with Raiders quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham or Nick Mullens, or Jaguars passers Jake Luton or Kyle Sloter, for that matter. But that doesn’t mean this game isn’t worth betting on. We’re in for an intriguing game that looks like a good opportunity to cash some wagers.

Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson has a career preseason record of 8-8. Four of those wins came in his first preseason with the Philadelphia Eagles, while his last two preseasons have included a 1-3 record. Meanwhile, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels sits at 2-6 from his two seasons with the Denver Broncos, going 1-3 in each year.

Neither coach seems to particularly care about winning in the preseason, so there’s not a strong trend from either staff that we can use in our betting picks.

Current over/under for Raiders vs. Jaguars

The current over/under for the Hall of Fame Game is set at 30.5. With this game being about evaluating depth and individuals who have little shot at making the final roster, it’s hard to project totals in the preseason. Each team has almost 40 extra players than their 53-man roster.

One thing I lean on is that we’ve seen some horrible offensive performances over the years in the preseason and defenses are usually ahead of offenses. However, this game might be different because the caliber of the average player isn’t as bad as some teams. Sloter, Stidham, and Mullens are better than your typical second- and third-string quarterback, but the depth goes beyond them.

Raiders vs. Jaguars picks

The stars will be lacking, but that doesn’t mean other proven NFL contributors won’t play. The Raiders have an open WR competition for the No. 2 outside role, so we could see some talented faces playing with Stidham and Mullens. Any number of snaps from Mack Hollins, Keelan Cole, Demarcus Robinson, and even training camp star Tyron Johnson is a win.

Each of these individuals can create big plays when needed. Vegas may also use veteran running back Ameer Abdullah and tight ends Foster Moreau and Jacob Hollister. Individuals like this should stand out far and above their practice-squad-level peers.

Jacksonville also has a few playmakers worth noting. Their backfield of Snoop Conner and Ryquell Armstead is one of the better tandems we’ll see in the preseason. With any luck, receivers Laquon Treadwell and Laviska Shenault Jr. will also play.

Later in the game, receivers Marvin Hall and Lujuan Winningham have blazing downfield speed. Sloter isn’t much of a deep passer, but with the total set so low, we may only need one or two scores by the second half to go over.

Simply, there’s too much talent on the field at the right positions between these teams to play the under. Neither team has a deep or strong defense overall, but their offenses are more prepared for the preseason.
