Terry McLaurin has become synonymous with being one of the most underrated players in the NFL in recent years. Known for his nearly flawless technique in every trait expected from a wide receiver, he consistently delivered year after year, staying committed to Washington through their rough years until the recent turnaround.
McLaurin had his best season in the NFL last year with Jayden Daniels and was crucial in helping the rookie quarterback blossom into a star immediately. Currently in a contract dispute with the franchise, a deal is expected, and one insider revealed they would be shocked if McLaurin decided to take a more aggressive approach to pressure the team during negotiations.

Peter Schrager Says a Holdout From Terry McLaurin Would be Shocking
In his six years in the NFL, McLaurin has been one of the most consistent wide receivers. He fell short of 1,000 receiving yards only in his rookie season and played every game over the past four years. With Daniels, his production became even more noticeable and translated into wins.
With 13 touchdowns and 1,096 receiving yards, McLaurin helped lead the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game and became Daniels’ go-to target. His technical peak came at the perfect time, as 2025 marks the final year of the extension he signed in 2022. While both sides have yet to reach a new agreement, a deal is likely given the team’s current trajectory.
Peter Schrager discussed the situation on the “Pat McAfee Show” and said he would be shocked if McLaurin held out of training camp, adding that he believes a contract should be signed by then.
“The Commanders are motivated to get a deal done with Terry McLaurin..
I would be shocked if he’s holding out once we get to Training Camp..
The Commanders certainly don’t wanna lose Terry McLaurin” ~ @PSchrags #PMSLive pic.twitter.com/sTY9oSkeH1

“He is the leader in that locker room and is the veteran guy that has done everything right every step of the way. Adam Peters comes from the 49ers organization, brought in Deebo Samuel, made a big trade to get Laremy Tunsil. I would be shocked if we’re getting into training camp and Terry McLaurin is holding out and taking punitive fines for not being there. This is a guy they want to pay,” Schrager said.
The contract McLaurin signed in his first extension with the franchise gave him an average annual salary of $22.788 million, which, at the time, placed him among the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. However, that number now falls below the current market for the position.
The Commanders are focused on capitalizing on the championship window that opened in 2024 with Daniels’ rise and keeping key pieces like McLaurin to make that possible.
Schrager also noted that the Commanders have no intention of trading him, and McLaurin doesn’t want to leave. Both sides simply need to agree on a number that makes sense for everyone and structure it in a way that maximizes the team’s flexibility during Daniels’ rookie contract.
