The New England Patriots‘ house of cards came crashing down Thursday night.

With injuries mounting on both sides of the ball, New England’s defense was diced up by Aaron Rodgers, and the offense was non-existent in a 24-3 road loss to the New York Jets. It was a wretched performance, albeit one that saw the debut of rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

There’s much to dissect from the loss, including how head coach Jerod Mayo used his players. Let’s look at the Patriots’ offensive and defensive snap count totals, via TruMedia, and offer some takeaways.

    Patriots Snap Count Takeaways

    Patriots Offense

    • Boutte saw one more snap than Thornton, whose slide down the depth chart continued. Thornton entered the season as a starter, but he simply hasn’t produced.
    • Offensive line newcomers Zach Thomas (guard) and Demontrey Jacobs (tackle) both debuted amid injuries/struggles from Caedan Wallace and Michael Jordan.
    • Rookie receiver Javon Baker saw zero offensive snaps after playing six last week. He saw six snaps on special teams, though.
    • The Patriots offense was so anemic that Drake Maye’s one drive accounted for 31% of the offensive snaps.
    • Layden Robinson, David Andrews, and Mike Onwenu haven’t missed a snap this season.
    • Rhamondre Stevenson’s playing took a hit after he suffered a finger injury and lost a fumble.

    Patriots Defense

    • Jahlani Tavai saw 100% of the snaps while taking over as defensive play-caller for Ja’Whaun Bentley, who could miss the rest of the season due to a torn pectoral muscle.
    • Raekwon McMillan replaced Bentley as the primary middle linebacker and saw 73% of the snaps. It’ll be interesting to see whether Sione Takitaki eats into McMillan’s playing time once he’s activated off the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
    • The Patriots continued managing reps for veteran corner Jonathan Jones, who saw just 68% of the snaps.
    • Alex Austin replaced Marco Wilson (healthy scratch) as the No. 4 corner and saw 14 snaps, one of which saw him give up a touchdown to receiver Allen Lazard.
    • Newcomer Eric Johnson debuted with 11 snaps.
    • Undrafted rookie safety Dell Pettus played eight snaps on a night that saw Jabrill Peppers limited due to cramps and an ankle injury.
    • Deatrich Wise played just 41% of the snaps as he continued serving mostly as a sub-rusher.
