The Patriots reportedly will have a full backfield on Sunday, including Gibson.
The veteran running back plans to play through his hip injury, according to a Sunday morning report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Gibson first appeared on Thursday’s injury report with the hip issue but was a limited practice participant the next day, fueling optimism he could suit up for the season opener.

Gibson projects as Rhamondre Stevenson’s top backup and potentially the Patriots’ top receiving back. The offseason free agency signing was heavily involved throughout training camp and appears primed for a large role in Alex Van Pelt’s offense.
Veteran JaMycal Hasty will round out the Patriots’ backfield.
