Patrick Mahomes Under Fire for “Embarrassing” Behavaior in Resurfaced Video

While the Kansas City Chiefs took down the Houston Texans to move on to their seventh-straight AFC Championship game, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been facing a lot of backlash on social media for various reasons.

The referees in the game were also under fire as they made some controversial calls in favor of the Chiefs, which seemed to irk most NFL fans and analysts alike. Even broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman openly expressed their displeasure, with Buck sarcastically saying “oh, come on” after an especially egregious call.

Mahomes was the main beneficiary of these calls, which already put him in a negative light on the internet.

That said, this only got worse when an old video resurfaced from the Chiefs’ controversial loss to the Buffalo Bills back in 2023 in which he put the refs on blast when shaking hands with Josh Allen, saying, they made the “Wildest f**cking call he’s ever seen.”

While Mahomes may have been upset by the call, this was not the time nor the place to voice that frustration. Allen had just won a hard-fought victory and the only thing Mahomes had to say to him was about the bad call.

The main reason this is so upsetting is that he’s gotten a lot of calls go his way throughout his career, and fans believed the Chiefs’ victory over the Texans was a prime example of that. Fans in the replies seem to be in agreement that this isn’t a good look for Mahomes, as one fan said, “Forgot how bad of a look this was.”

Another fan also agreed, saying, “Bad look for Mahomes.”

One fan even said that this was “so embarrassing by Mahomes.”

Mahomes Also Under Fire for “Flopping” to Get Calls from the Refs

Though Mahomes is under fire for this resurfaced video, fans and analysts also put him on blast for attempting to “flop” in the Chiefs’ victory over the Texans, which added to the frustration of the poor officiating.

One fan called it a “Ridiculous attempt at a flop after getting SEVERAL questionable roughing calls already this game. This is the reason people outside of KC (Kansas City) don’t like Mahomes.”

Another fan also called this attempt ridiculous, saying, “What a ridiculous flop attempt by Mahomes, this is embarrassing.”

To make matters worse, it was more than just the fans expressing their frustration for Mahomes’ questionable antics. Former NFL quarterback and current analyst Troy Aikman also called him out on the broadcast for “trying to draw the penalty.”

“He’s trying to draw the penalty. Rather than just run out of bounds, he slows down. And that’s been the frustration and I get it. I understand it. That’s been the frustration for these defensive players around the league.”

Though the Chiefs are headed to their seventh straight AFC title game, they aren’t being portrayed in a very positive light. This is especially true for Mahomes, who is widely considered to be one of the best players in the NFL. Hopefully, this response can lead to a positive change from both the league and Mahomes.
