The Chiefs have dominated the NFL ever since Patrick Mahomes took over the starting job in Kansas City. With three Super Bowl victories since 2020, the Chiefs have been one of the most successful teams in NFL history.
Over the years, the core has remained largely unchanged, except at the wide receiver position, where there have been several different players.
Former Chiefs WR Gehrig Dieter recently decided to have some fun with Chiefs fans, taking to social media to announce that he was looking to sell his Super Bowl ring from 2020.

Gehrig Dieter’s April Fools Joke
While Dieter wasn’t a key player in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run in 2020, he still walked away with a Super Bowl ring. He pretended to be interested in selling it as part of an April Fools’ joke, eventually telling Chiefs fans to check the date.
“Well this was fun. Aprils fools for all you people that don’t look at a calendar,” said Dieter on his prank to Chiefs fans.

Dieter clearly had a lot of fun pranking his fans. Selling his only Super Bowl ring would be a bold move, and it’s unclear what price fans would be willing to pay for it. However, because it’s the Chiefs, Dieter could likely fetch a pretty penny if he were truly interested in selling. After hanging up his cleats the season after that victory, Dieter didn’t get any more rings to potentially sell.
Dieter only recorded two career catches, one of which came in 2020. His lone reception—a ten-yard catch in Week 17 against the Los Angeles Chargers—was the only statistical contribution he made to that Super Bowl run. He didn’t even catch the pass from Patrick Mahomes. But Dieter still walked away with a ring and the distinction of catching an NFL pass, so, given his limited action, he certainly got a great deal.
The 2020 Super Bowl was the biggest stage Mahomes and the Chiefs had played on up until that point in Mahomes’ career. Mahomes led a dramatic late-game comeback to end Kansas City’s long Super Bowl drought. With support from his defense and offensive playmakers, the Chiefs triumphed 24-20. This victory marked the beginning of a new era for Mahomes and the Chiefs, but for Dieter, it was the beginning of the end of his playing career.
Dieter will surely remember winning that Super Bowl for the rest of his life, and he has the ring to prove it. Unless he decides to make his April Fools’ joke a reality and sell it, Dieter can continue having fun and joking around with Chiefs fans.
