The Green Bay Packers need a boost at pass rusher if they want to compete for a Super Bowl in 2026. But finding impact players on the trade market can be difficult.
One former top-five draft pick could be available at the right price, and the Packers might be the perfect landing spot.
Green Bay Packers Could Trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux
In a June 3 article for PFSN, NFL analyst Brandon Austin suggested the Packers should trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux.
“Thibodeaux racked up 11.5 sacks in 2023, so trading him may seem strange to some, but he may be more of a luxury considering the talent New York has coming off the edge,” Austin wrote.
He also broke down the Packers’ current pass rush situation and what they’re looking for.
“They’re looking for improved production from their edge rushers in 2025 after a lackluster showing last season. Rashan Gary led the group with 7.5 sacks, the only edge defender to reach at least five. Kingsley Enagbare was the next closest with 4.5, while interior lineman Devonte Wyatt notched five from the DT spot. Still, the Packers need more consistency from the outside,” he said.
Austin called Thibodeaux’s ability “undeniable,” which gives the Packers a reason to take a look.
“Even though Thibodeaux’s production hasn’t exactly matched his draft position, the talent is undeniable,” he added.
The risk, of course, comes from his 2024 drop-off. After a strong 2023 campaign with 11.5 sacks, his production fell to 5.5 sacks last year. Still, Thibodeaux appears motivated to bounce back quickly.
Packers Have 1 Additional Selling Point on Giants’ Pass Rusher
There are risks, but there’s also a potential upside for the Packers. If they can help Thibodeaux return to his 2023 form, they’ll gain major leverage when it comes time for contract talks. The edge rusher is entering his fourth year, and the end of his rookie deal is getting close.
That down year in 2024 won’t go away, and it’ll still be part of the conversation during negotiations. If Green Bay is the place where he rebounds, they’ll have a strong case to keep his price in check.

It puts the Packers in a win-win spot. If Thibodeaux thrives, they’ll have a productive edge rusher and an argument to keep future costs down. If he struggles, they can sever ties or move him without incurring major long-term consequences.
The big question now: Will Thibodeaux still be with the Giants by Week 1?
