‘We Are STANDING Together’- Usain Bolt Pens Emotional Note While Aiding Hurricane Victims at Alma Mater

Hurricane Melissa’s devastation in Jamaica prompted one of the nation’s biggest heroes, Usain Bolt, to share a heartfelt call for unity and togetherness on social media. Striking on October 28th as a Category 5 storm, the hurricane caused severe damage in many parts of the country and displaced over 1.5 million residents.

What Message Did Usain Bolt Share After Hurricane Melissa Hit?

Bolt returned to Jamaica after the hurricane struck, personally visiting communities affected by the event, including his native town of Trelawny in the western parishes. He also visited his alma mater, William Knibb High School, where he distributed food packages to those affected.

In a post on X, he shared a video of the relief efforts and wrote:

“J A M A I C A, You all gave me the chance to represent you on the world stage — to wear our colours with pride, show the world the strength, resilience, and the heart of our people. Everything I’ve achieved started right here at home.”

He called for the people of Jamaica to stay united as they rebuild together:

“Now, as so many of our children, brothers and sisters face the hardships caused by Hurricane Melissa, please know — We are right here with YOU. We are STANDING together, REBUILDING together, and reminding the world that JAMAICANS never leave each other behind. We’ve faced many a storms before, and every single time, we RISE again — STRONGER, UNITED and full of FAITH. Stay STRONG, stay safe, and know we will RISE TOGETHER,”

Bolt has often expressed his support for Jamaica, setting up his own foundation and community projects to help underprivileged children in the nation. After retiring from the sport in 2017, Bolt has stepped up efforts to bring more global recognition to Jamaica. In fact, earlier this year, he was named Jamaica’s official tourism ambassador.

What Bolt’s Life Has Looked Like Post-Retirement

Many have been wondering what Bolt’s life has been like after he retired, ending his career as the greatest sprinter of all time. The 8-time Olympic gold medalist stated in an interview with the Telegraph that years of effort have taken a toll on him physically:

“Now that I’ve been out for a while, I have to actually start running because when I walk upstairs I get out of breath. I mostly do gym workouts. I think when I start working out fully again, I probably have to do some laps just to get my breathing right.”

Bolt also added that he spends time with his family, which includes his partner, Kasi Bennett, and their three children: five-year-old Olympia Lightning and twin four-year-old boys, Thunder and Saint Leo.
