This relaxed period followed a season where she made a major competitive shift. Known for her dominance in the 400m hurdles, she surprised the track world by focusing on the 400m flat for 2025. The decision paid off in Tokyo, where she defeated top competitors, including Marileidy Paulino and Salwa Eid Naser, to claim the world title.

What Are McLaughlin-Levrone’s Goals for the 2026 Season?

With the 2025 season behind her, the 26-year-old has turned her attention to historic benchmarks. Her winning time of 47.78 seconds at the World Championships stands as the second-fastest ever recorded in the event, placing the world record of 47.60 within striking distance. McLaughlin-Levrone has made it clear that chasing this mark is a priority.

She discussed the possibility of breaking the record in an October 2025 interview with USA Today. “I think it’s fair to say that that’s definitely something that’s on my radar,” she said.

“I think we knew that sub-48 was there. I think I was a little surprised to see 47.78,” she continued. “You feel so close yet so far away from that world record. But it’s exciting. I think it’s an exciting time for sports. It’s an exciting time for that event. It definitely is a challenge that I hopefully can push myself in for more races to come.”

Beyond the track, she has also hinted at expanding her athletic repertoire. McLaughlin-Levrone expressed interest in the long jump, mentioning it as an event she would love to attempt in the future.
