Lindsey Vonn’s recent feature on the Time magazine sparked a heartfelt reaction from her longtime friend and The Vampire Diaries star, Nina Dobrev. Dobrev rose to fame for her dual portrayal of Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in the hit supernatural drama.

Last year, Vonn made a stunning comeback to the slopes after undergoing partial knee replacement surgery in April by seizing a silver medal in the Super-G at the FIS Ski World Cup Finals.

The American skier had earlier shared an emotional reaction to the feature as it was one of her late mother’s favorite magazines. In an Instagram post, she reflected on this special moment, adding: “I can still see her in bed in Minnesota, reading each issue intently, ice cream in hand. I know she would be proud. I never could have imagined, even in my wildest dreams, that my life would lead me here.”

“I’m just a girl from Minnesota who wanted to ski fast. But this cover means I’ve done a lot more in my life than just ski fast..At 41, I’m still chasing dreams, still pushing limits, still believing in what’s possible,” the 2010 Downhill Olympics champion wrote.

Inspired by Vonn’s Knee Surgery Journey, Dobrev Opens Up on Her Own Recovery Story

Dobrev opened up about how Vonn’s posting about her own knee surgery made her feel less alone in her own injury situation. That experience also inspired her to share her recovery journey publicly, helping others who might be going through similar injuries.

It’s worth noting that she suffered a torn ACL, meniscus, and a tibial plateau fracture, which required surgery and extensive rehabilitation.

In an Instagram post, she reflected on this emotional journey: “As someone who identifies as a ‘highly independent person’ who is a ‘busy body’ that can’t sit still, this has been an especially challenging time. Being immobile and having to be so dependent on others hasn’t been easy..I had a lot of anxiety when I first got injured, because I didn’t want to ‘bother’ people or be an inconvenience.”

The Canadian actress also noted how she was trying to counter her negative thoughts by practicing patience. She acknowledged the mental challenges of her recovery by making an effort to be kinder to herself and reminding herself that her struggles are temporary. She, notably, experienced the injury during an electric dirt bike accident.
