Nebraska Volleyball once again put on a top display as they swept Illinois for their 14th consecutive sweep of this year’s regular season. Laney Choboy and Andi Jackson were among the star performers for the program on the game held on Thursday, staged at their home arena, as the Huskers continued their unbeaten streak by taking their record to 23-0.
Following their victory, Choboy, who impressed with a career-best of 20 digs in the match, showed her admiration for her teammate Jackson’s abilities.
What Did Choboy Say About Nebraska Volleyball Team’s Trust in Jackson Following the Game?
Jackson had a one-of-a-kind day, achieving a perfect hitting percentage of 1.000, a feat rarely seen in volleyball. Recording nine kills on nine swings, she showed why she is one of Nebraska’s most dependable players.
When asked about her teammate Jackson’s performance, Choboy admitted she wasn’t aware of Jackson’s perfect record but noted that everyone on the team expects her to deliver. Highlighting that Jackson is considered highly trustworthy, she added that her flawless performance didn’t come as a surprise.
In a post-match interview, Choboy stated, “I’m just not surprised at all. Every time Andy goes up, I think that she expects, and we just kind of know and trust that she’s probably going to get a kill or get them out of the system. So, we have a lot of trust in her, and I think that she’s just playing so well right now and just doing so amazing. So I’m just not surprised that she went nine for nine.”
On the other hand, Choboy also notched two service aces and successfully passed nine of Illinois’ serves, besides posting a personal-best digs performance. Notably, the Huskers will travel to face Minnesota on Nov. 8.
Choboy Reflects on the Difference in the Team’s Dynamics in the Present Year and Last Year
Choboy spoke about the difference between this year and last year’s teams. While both teams are strong, this year’s squad feels more outgoing and bubbly, with players being “unapologetically” themselves. In an interview with the media in October, she spoke about the players’ unique personalities, adding:
“I think I’m going to kind of step in the answer. I feel like our team this year is just super outgoing and super bubbly, and like our team last year, it is different. It’s hard to kind of put your finger on exactly what is different. Both are just amazing teams, obviously. But I feel like this year it’s like everyone’s just unapologetically themselves, and you know we’re all just okay with that.”
Last season, the Nebraska team had the likes of Lexi Rodriguez, Merritt Beason, and Leyla Blackwell, who have now graduated and moved on to professional volleyball leagues. Notably, the Huskers finished as a semi-finalist at the NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship 2024, losing to Penn State in a heartbreaking 3‑2 reverse sweep.
