The Big Ten Championship title is already secured. The postseason is looming. But before the Nebraska Cornhuskers focus on their massive upcoming matchups against Penn State and Ohio State, the roster has a more immediate priority: the Thanksgiving dinner table.
Even amidst the intensity of a title run, the Huskers took a moment to debate the most important question of the holiday season.
What Dishes Are the Huskers Craving This Thanksgiving?
Amid preparations for their final regular-season games, the players took a trip down memory lane to reveal their must-have holiday foods in a recent Q&A session. For several teammates, the side dishes were the stars of the show. Senior Allie Sczech highlighted her favorite, stating, “Mashed Potatoes,” while freshman Keri Leimbach gave the same answer. Teraya Sigler was more specific, adding, “Mashed potatoes and gravy.”
Other players kept their preferences simple. Bergen Reilly answered, “Bread,” matching the efficiency of her play on the court, while freshman middle blocker Kenna Cogill selected “Rolls.” Meanwhile, Harper Murray and Campbell Flynn agreed on a comfort food classic, stating, “Mac and Cheese.”
Some choices were a bit more unconventional. Laney Choboy admitted, “Broccoli Cornbread, sounds disgusting, but it’s so good,” while Olivia Mauch stood by her unique pick, revealing, “Greenbean Casserole, but people make fun of me.” On the sweeter side, Andi Jackson and Manaia Ogbechie both answered, “Pumpkin Pies,” while Ryan Hunter pointed to a family recipe. Hunter said, “My grandmother’s fried chicken is the best thing I’ve ever had.”
The team’s senior leaders also weighed in on the debate. Rebekah Allick selected “stuffing,” while Maisie Boesiger chose “condiment cranberry sauce.”
Why Are Seniors Allick and Boesiger Critical to the Program?
Beyond the holiday menu, Nebraska head coach Dani Busboom Kelly addressed the impact seniors Allick and Boesiger have made during their tenure. Both players are set to receive honors at the Bob Devaney Sports Center following the Ohio State game, along with their fellow graduating teammates.
Kelly discussed their contributions in a recent press conference. “I think they’re both super special to the program and just two Nebraskans and completely different roles and have had completely different careers, but both really embody what it means to be a Nebraska Volleyball player,” she said.
The coach emphasized how both Allick, a middle blocker, and Boesiger, a libero, represent the state. “Somebody from Nebraska that’s grown up dreaming of playing here and then so many goals they have accomplished and more to come but they’re both so excellent,” the Huskers head coach said. Kelly added that even after their departure, both players will continue to serve as great representatives for the program within the volleyball community.
