Ex Nebraska Volleyball Player Merritt Beason Gets Emotional After Standing Ovation in Omaha

    Former Nebraska Volleyball player Merritt Beason recently opened up about her debut for the Omaha team. The outside hitter has represented the Omaha Supernovas in the Major League Volleyball since 2025.

    Beason had started as a player for the Florida Gators. She transferred to the Nebraska Volleyball team in 2023 and completed her career as a senior volleyball player for the same.

    Merritt Beason Gets Emotional on Receiving Standing Ovation for Omaha Debut

    Beason talked about her grand debut for the Supernovas. In a conversation with Hurrdat Sports, the former outside hitter for the Nebraska team mentioned how she turned emotional on the standing ovation she received from the crowd.

    Beason mentioned the experience in her interview,

    “Yeah it’s so special I think just, we all know like, Nebraska celebrates their volleyball players, and it’s all just so special, and I just feel so grateful and honored to be in a place and in a city and in a state that celebrates their female athletes like Nebraska does.”

    Beason joined the Supernovas in the 2025 season. She was followed by the former head coach of the Nebraska team, John Cook, who joined the team as the general manager the same year.

    Beason’s Track Record As a Nebraska Volleyball Player

    Beason joined the Nebraska Volleyball team as an outside hitter in 2023. She had previously represented the Florida Gators from 2021 to 2023, during which the Gators also won the SEC Championships in 2022.

    Beason was a part of the Big Red team that won the Big Ten Conference title in 2023. She was also a crucial part of the Nebraska team, which qualified for the finals of the 2023 NCAA Championships. They lost the finals to the Texas Longhorns by 0-3.

    Beason then joined the Huskers for a final season in 2024 as a collegiate volleyball player. She also represented the team in beach volleyball alongside Harper Murray, who had joined the Huskers around the same time.

    Beason was a part of the Nebraska team that jointly shared the Big Ten title with the Penn State Nittany Lions. The Nebraska Volleyball player played an important role in the Huskers making it to a second consecutive semifinal, only to be defeated by the Nittany Lions, who edged the Big Red team out by 3-2.

    The Nittany Lions went on to win the NCAA title after more than a decade when they defeated the Louisville Cardinals. Beason finally announced her retirement after the 2024 season.

    Beason was included in the All-America First Squad in 2023. She also made it to the All-America Second Squad in 2024. Beason averaged 3.267 kills per set, with a hitting percentage of 0.260 as an outside hitter for the Cornhuskers.
