Lindsey Vonn Reveals the One Thing That Makes Her ‘Jealous’ of Younger Athletes

Lindsey Vonn recently opened up about feeling “jealous” of the knowledge today’s younger athletes possess. She clarified that it’s not their age or performance she envies, but rather the wealth of information now available that helps the current generation of athletes better care for their bodies and recover smarter.

Back in her early days, Vonn admitted she didn’t have access to the same resources or understanding of recovery and training, which made it harder for her to maintain her body the way she can today.

What Did Lindsey Vonn Reveal About Her Jealousy Against Current Athletes?

In a recent interview with TIME, Vonn admitted to overtraining due to a lack of resources, stating, “I think just the way I manage myself is different. You know, doing the cold plunge, doing the sauna and cold plunge, eating foods that aren’t inflammatory, not drinking. All of the things add up to, ok, I can work really hard and not get as sore, and not feel as tired, and continue to train at a really high level in a way that I couldn’t before.”

“We didn’t know as much as we do now, so doing three sessions a day somehow seemed like a smart idea, like work harder, just keep working harder, and that’s not actually the smart thing to do. So the accumulation of knowledge that I have now is incredible, and I wish I had that at a younger age. That’s why the only reason I’m jealous of the younger athletes,” the 41-year-old further mentioned.

The video interview was released by TIME alongside her cover feature as she once again sets her sights on finishing on the podium at the Olympics. It comes after her remarkable return to skiing in November 2024, when she came out of retirement following a robot-assisted partial knee replacement surgery earlier that April.

After coming out of retirement, she achieved what many thought was impossible by winning a silver medal and earning her first podium finish since her comeback at the World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, Idaho, on March 23, 2025.

Vonn Wraps up Her Summer Preparation in Chile as She Departs Home Early to See Beloved Leo

Vonn wrapped up her training a bit early to return home after learning that her pet dog, Leo, wasn’t feeling well. She also shared that her dog, whom she adopted from an animal shelter in January 2014 when he was just nine months old, has been growing old.

Reflecting on her preparation for the upcoming season in the same post, the 2010 Olympics downhill gold medalist posted on Instagram, writing: “Thank you for an amazing summer preparation to everyone who helped make it happen, including Mother Nature! Couldn’t have been better. Feeling healthy, grateful and excited for what’s to come!”

Based on this post, she trained at the Corralco Resort de Montaña in Chile as part of her summer preparation for the season ahead. It is worth noting that the skier is also a part of the 2025-26 Stifel U.S. Alpine Ski Team announced by the U.S. Ski & Snowboard.
