Following her remarkable showing against Illinois, the 20-year-old was asked in a post-match interview how she reacted and made decisions during a defensive play. She explained, saying, “I feel like most of the time I just react. Because it was a big hit, I knew that nobody was behind me to cover it.”

“Usually, if I’m covering the outside, at least someone’s behind me, but since she was hitting out of the back row, I knew no one would be back there,” she added.

The Huskers will next face UCLA on November 14 in an away game in Los Angeles, California. Their last matchup was against Minnesota, where they won 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-20).

Nebraska’s Director of Operations Shares Her Thoughts on Whether Choboy Had the Best Match Against Illinois

In a recent interview with the Huskers Radio Network’s host Jessica Coody, Peterson spoke highly about Choboy, saying:

“Well, I think from a defensive standpoint, Laney is very, very good. The matchups we had with Illinois and what they were doing offensively, they try to throw it around a lot, and Laney has a great feel and read defensively, so she gets a jump on the ball and can cover a lot of court that way. It was almost a perfect world for her.”

While Peterson noted that it was likely one of Choboy’s best nights statistically, she emphasized that Laney often makes momentum-shifting plays that go beyond numbers. She added that Choboy’s confidence and command on defense were exactly what the Huskers needed in that match.
