American track star Gabby Thomas was part of an adorable interview on social media. The interviewer was none other than Olympia, the 8-year-old daughter of Serena Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, who was present at Athlos, the professional women’s only track and field league. Thomas attended this year’s Athlos, which was hosted in NYC, with many top athletes such as Tara Davis-Woodhall competing.
Ohanian, who is the founder of the league, established the competition last year. Since then, he has brought in athletes like Thomas, Sha’Carri Richardson, and Davis-Woodhall as adviser-owners of the league.
Gabby Thomas Shared an Adorable Interview Conducted by Serena Williams’ Daughter, Olympia
Williams and Ohanian’s daughter, Olympia, gave a heartwarming interview on the red carpet of Athlos. Olympia asked Thomas about her favourite colour and animal, as well as whether she liked Athlos.
Ohanian took to X to share his reaction to the interview, sharing that Thomas engaged with Olympia in a ‘sweet’ manner, “I’ll never be over this. @[translate:itgabbyt]was so sweet w Jr”
Thomas did not compete at Athlos this year due to an Achilles injury she suffered earlier in the season. This also caused her to withdraw from the World Athletics Championships this year.
Thomas on How ‘Compassion’ Drives Her Within Her Community, As Well as Track
Thomas recently opened up about how compassion drives her within the sport of track and field as well as her community. In an interview with The Skimm, the reigning 200m Olympic champion said that she uses it to celebrate other people’s wins and to encourage her teammates.
“On the track, compassion means being aware of my impact on the sport and everyone in it. It’s about celebrating other people’s wins, encouraging my teammates, and reminding myself that we’re all part of something bigger than just running, especially right now, in this moment of elevating women’s sports,” said Thomas. “Within my community, it’s always been about using my platform to uplift everyone around me, whether that’s among close friends, at the clinic, or with my training partners on a daily basis.”
She also added that she gives herself grace when things don’t work out.
“I can be really hard on myself when things don’t go as planned or when I’m stressed, but I know I need to have the same patience with myself that I would extend to others. That means allowing myself to rest, set boundaries, and give myself room to grow,” added Thomas.
Thomas performed impressively at the USA National Championships despite suffering from an Achilles injury, recording a time of 22.20 seconds in the Women’s 200m to finish in 3rd place.
