New Orleans Saints fans are reeling after NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the franchise has no plans to overhaul its roster this offseason. This comes after a disastrous 2-7 record and head coach Dennis Allen’s firing last week.
Rapoport says the Saints don’t see a rebuild on the horizon. Instead, they’re banking on retooling around their veteran core despite a strained salary cap and a roster packed with aging stars.
Nick Wright Warrants Extreme Action From Saints Fans
TV personality Nick Wright joined the fold after seeing Rapoport’s story. He voiced the frustration of fans who believe general manager Mickey Loomis is putting his job security over the team’s future.
Wright took to X, saying, “If this is true, Saints fans should file a class action against Mickey Loomis. There’s never been a more obvious example of a single front office person putting his own personal job security over the well-being of a fan base that simply wants to (one day) compete for a SB again.”

He’s not alone in questioning whether the Saints’ loyalty to familiar faces keeps the team from making the tough decisions needed for long-term success.
New Orleans’ stubbornness to shift direction, even with an aging roster and a projected minus-$62.7 million cap space for 2025, is puzzling. Loomis recently offloaded cornerback Marshon Lattimore, yet major changes seem off the table.
The Saints point to injuries as a major setback, but fans want more than excuses. With interim head coach Darren Rizzi stepping in, the spotlight is on New Orleans’ management to prove they’re committed to winning.
However, one still wonders: Is this loyalty or denial?
Why Did New Orleans Fire Head Coach Dennis Allen?
The Saints decided to part ways with Allen after a disappointing 2-7 record this season. Loomis addressed the firing, saying it was “circumstances” and a slew of injuries that put the team in this tough spot.
“Dennis Allen, I think, is a fantastic football coach, and I think anybody in our league who would talk about him thinks he’s a fantastic football coach,” Loomis stated. “He is. I think in this case the circumstances created the record. That’s just the truth, and a lot of people don’t want to hear it.”
Quarterback Derek Carr’s absence in multiple games and a roster hit with 10 players on injured reserve certainly didn’t help Allen’s case. After a promising 2-0 start, the Saints collapsed, losing seven games in a row — the worst losing streak New Orleans has seen since 1999.
The Week 9 loss to the Carolina Panthers, a team they easily defeated in Week 1, was the final blow for Allen. With a 26-53 record across his head coaching career, the results just weren’t there for Allen.
