The Seattle Seahawks have drafted themselves a special talent in quarterback Jalen Milroe — at least, that’s according to the player’s legendary former head coach, Nick Saban. Milroe quarterbacked Alabama in 2023, Saban’s final season in coaching.
The Seahawks became the fourth team to take a quarterback not named Shedeur Sanders when they took Milroe with the 92nd overall pick. According to Saban, though, Milroe brings something that none of the 91 players picked ahead of him can offer.

Seahawks Draft Jalen Milroe With 92nd Pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
The Seahawks have had arguably the busiest offseason in the NFL this year, completely transforming their offense with trades, free agent signings, and now draft picks. After adding some much-needed offensive line help in Round 1, Seattle added safety Nick Emmanwori and tight end Elijah Arroyo in Round 2.
In the third round, however, Seattle made perhaps its most significant addition yet, drafting Milroe out of Alabama. While expected to sit behind new quarterback signing Sam Darnold for at least a year or two, Milroe’s potential as an elite runner gives him a sky-high ceiling.
That running ability was touched on by Saban, following the pick, with the legendary coach suggesting that the Seahawks had themselves a potential star.
“I tell you, he’s gonna give the Seahawks an element of offense that nobody else in this draft can give anybody. Because this guy’s fast, he’s explosive, and, look, he can throw the ball. He’s got a strong arm; he’s a great deep-ball thrower; he just needs a little refinement and consistency in the passing game, and he could be an outstanding player,” Saban said.

Saban went on to explain Milroe’s bad habits and the things he needs to improve on if he’s to fulfill his potential. All in all, though, it was a glowing reference from his former boss.
What Are the Seahawks Getting With Milroe?
It’s not just Saban that sees elite upside in Seattle’s new quarterback; the player’s PFSN Draft Profile paints the picture of an incredibly fun prospect with dynamite potential.
“In a 2025 NFL Draft QB class that lacks abundance, Jalen Milroe is the high-upside gamble who could steal general managers’ hearts. Milroe’s passing production was pedestrian in 2024, but his 3,570 total yards and 36 total scores (20 ground touchdowns) put a spotlight on his ultimate potential.
“Top to bottom, there may not be a 2025 QB prospect with a ceiling as high. He’s an elite athlete and a dynamic running threat at 6’2″, 217 pounds, and he has a rocket launcher attached to his right shoulder.
“He’ll also check boxes as a leader and competitor. Despite all this, Milroe wasn’t able to put it all together in college. His mechanics are trending up. His accuracy and operational efficiency could follow suit. Front-office executives across the league will have to decide how early they’re willing to take a top-flight talent with unproven effectiveness.”
The Seahawks’ front office was willing before anyone else, and it’s the Seahawks that will attempt to mold the prospect into an elite NFL quarterback.
