The Pittsburgh Penguins are getting ready to face the Washington Capitals on Nov. 6. With Tristan Jarry placed on injured reserve, the team’s goaltending situation has become an important topic ahead of the matchup.
As they manage this stretch of games, one young name has started to stand out and attract attention from fans and the organization.
Are Penguins Fans Watching the Rise of Their Next Goalie Hope?
The Penguins have called up 21-year-old Sergei Murashov from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and fans couldn’t be happier. Murashov, a skilled goaltender from Yaroslavl, Russia, was named the AHL Goaltender of the Month for October. His strong start in the minors and steady growth have earned him this NHL opportunity.
His call-up came right after Jarry’s injury, opening a chance for the rookie to show what he can bring to the team. Murashov’s play has been a bright spot in the Penguins’ system, and his progress has made him one of their most promising young goalies.
After the Penguins’ official account announced the news on X, fans shared their excitement.

The reactions were full of energy and hope for the future.
“VERY excited about this,” a fan said.
“Looks like the #LetsGoPens have a real gem with this one,” another fan commented.
“Been waiting for the call up for Sergei Murashov! Dubas and Muse should have faith in him as they have with Kindel. This could be a Sid and Fleury reincarnation with Kindel and Murashov,” one X user said, comparing the moment to the early days of Sidney Crosby and Marc-André Fleury.
More fans joined in with similar reactions.
“THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,” a fan said.
“Yea, start this kid Sunday please,” another fan commented.
With the Penguins sitting at 8-4-2, the team has built a solid start to the season. Now, Murashov’s call-up adds another reason for fans to stay tuned.
Whether he plays against the Capitals or later in the week, his debut could mark the beginning of an important chapter in Pittsburgh’s goaltending future.
Penguins Faced Goalie Issues in the Last Two Losses
Another potential reason behind the Penguins’ recalling Murashov in goal is due to their recent struggles. They have lost their last two games against the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Maple Leafs by big margins.
Goalie Arturs Silovs allowed four goals on 33 shots against the Jets, finishing with a .879 save percentage. Coach Dan Muse said, “When you give a team like that too much space, you’re not going to like the chances.”
Jarry also struggled against the Maple Leafs, stopping only 16 of 20 shots for an .800 save percentage. The Penguins lost that game 4-3 after leading 3-0. Muse said, “We felt the first two periods is the way we want to be playing. It has to be a full 60 minutes, though, and we got away from it there.”
The Penguins outshot Toronto 25-8 through two periods but could not stop the Leafs’ comeback. With problems in goal during the last two games, the Penguins hope Murashov can help them in future matchups this season.
