‘For the Olympics or Beer League?’ – NHL Fans Roast Team Canada’s New Olympic Jerseys in Viral Uproar

Canada has unveiled fresh Olympic ice hockey jerseys, exciting fans just as the NHL and PWHL seasons ramp up and Olympic anticipation grows. The new Team Canada sweaters were revealed during the 2025–26 Rivalry Series against Team USA, a showcase that hints at the matchups and drama to come at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games.

Not All Fans Supported Canada’s Viral New Look

This year’s jerseys come in red, black, and white, each sporting a bold maple leaf and thick multi-tone stripes. The “unbreakable leaf” design celebrates strength and teamwork, with a diamond pattern symbolizing Canada’s Olympic resolve and spirit.

Incorporating modern performance materials, these jerseys continue a history of iconic Canadian looks seen from Chamonix 1924 wool knits to the Vancouver 2010 design and the legendary Golden Goal moment.

From early RCAF Flyers and mid-century classics to sustainable updates and First Nations-inspired motifs, the proud maple leaf crest remains an emotional anchor for fans and athletes alike.

With NHL stars like Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid hoping to make the final Olympic roster, hockey’s biggest stage is set for fierce competition and new memories. As the road to Milano Cortina narrows, the new sweater is poised to drape the next generation of Canadian legends.

However, despite the significance behind the look, not all fans were impressed. Thanks to the team’s highly coveted 4 Nations look, fans were confused by the drastic change. “Lol did Carney help design these? We literally had the perfect jersey from the 4 nations… just had to tweak it a bit if you really wanted it different,” one tweeted.

“For the Olympics, or the Beer League,” quipped one fan.

“Black maple leaf with red jersey???? WHO thought they were cooking with that,” added another.

Other fans were quick to criticize the fact that some of the colors that are synonymous with the Canadian flag were nowhere to be found. “A black flag on a red jersey with zero white anywhere. might be the worst thing I’ve ever laid my eyes upon lol”.

“What is the compulsion to use black? A white maple leaf on the red jersey would be absolutely gorgeous” added another fan.

Clearly, fans are not loving the black. But it is not all bad news. There were a number of fans who came running to the new jersey’s defense, “Looking like gold-medal fashion already,” defended one user on Twitter.

Well, whether you love them or hate them, they definitely got people talking.
