‘We Didn’t Deserve To Win’ — Capitals Fans Annoyed After Game 1 Overtime Loss to Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes have drawn first blood over the Washington Capitals in their second-round series, seizing victory with a 2-1 triumph in overtime on Tuesday night, May 6, in Washington, D.C.

Defenseman Jaccob Slavin’s shot from distance somehow made it through a maze of players and eluded goaltender Logan Thompson through the five-hole.

Game 2 between the two clubs is scheduled for Thursday, May 8.

Capitals Fans Expressed Frustration With the Overtime Loss

Capitals fans expressed frustration with the setback, with some saying that Washington didn’t deserve to win.

One fan said he felt that the Capitals didn’t deserve to win: “we didn’t deserve to win, just absolutely pathetic.”

Another fan demanded that the club play better in Game 2, exclaiming, “Wake the f*** up. That was some of the worst hockey I’ve ever seen. The Canes beat the s*** out of us. How it even got to OT beats me!”

This fan had a case of déjà vu, saying, “Dejavu from Montreal. Giving up a goal on a poor turnover in our own end late in the game leading to a comeback. Literally no one but LT showed up to play.’

Another fan said that the series may as well end if they have a repeat performance in Game 2, saying, “If you play like that again on Thurs you might as well just wave the flag and not travel to Raleigh bc that was pathetic.”

Speaking of blasting the club, this fan did so by saying, “That had to be the worst game the Capitals have played all year. No energy, lifeless, out worked, out hustled, beaten in every category! Hopefully Game 2 is a slightly better effort.”

Finally, this Capitals fan ripped the team for wasting his time, saying, “Most pathetic game ive ever seen. Thanks for completely wasting my night.”

Capitals Coach Spencer Carbery Pulled No Punches After The Loss

The Capitals managed only 14 shots on goal during the entire contest and turned the puck over midway through the third period, which directly led to Logan Stankoven’s game-tying goal.

Based on the comments made by head coach Spencer Carbery immediately afterward, he was not happy whatsoever with his club’s performance.

“If we sat here and went through the whole game,” he said. “It wasn’t good, and that’s the bottom line. Our entire game was not good.”

One of the positive aspects of the game that he did point out was the performance of their goaltender, Thompson, who made 31 saves.
