The Edmonton Oilers’ already lukewarm season was rendered all the more disheartening following the team’s loss to the St. Louis Blues. When a Stanley Cup finalist loses to a team that is still lingering at the bottom of the Central Division, fans are sure to be rubbed the wrong way.
The backlash that followed on social media was unforgiving, but amidst it all, the question remains: will the roster be able to turn things around and show up in the playoffs once again?
When it comes to the pillars of Edmonton, Connor McDavid has been slightly underwhelming this season, but Leon Draisaitl is as exceptional as they come.
However, beyond the greats, Jack Roslovic is taking big steps in his first year with the Oilers, with one eye on extending his stay in Edmonton beyond this season.
Edmonton Oilers Fans Get Talking About Jack Roslovic
Roslovic is on a one-year, $1.5 million contract, and the question is, will Stan Bowman prolong his stay in Edmonton?
The 28-year-old scored one goal in the Oilers’ showdown against the Blues at the Enterprise Center. Although his efforts fell short, they were recognized. In the game against the Chicago Blackhawks, too, Roslovic contributed to the team’s 3-2 overtime win with a goal.
Jason Gregor sees endless potential in the line that comprises Vasily Podkolzin, Draisaitl, and Roslovic. Gregor went as far as to call them the team’s “top line” at the moment. “The Podkolzin-Draisaitl-Roslovic has recently been put together. They’ve played 52 min at 5×5, and they’ve outscored teams 5-0 and outshot them 31-19. They are the Oilers’ top line right now,” he wrote on social media.
Gregor’s opinion about Roslovic is not an outlier; the forward has garnered significant approval from the Oilers’ fanbase, despite the team’s overall poor showing. “So uh, yeah Roslovic is not leaving the top 6 anytime soon,” wrote one Oilers fan.

Another Oilers fan expressed firm belief in the 28-year-old’s prolonged future with the blue and orange squad, even going so far as to suggest that he buy a house in Edmonton to settle down for good. “Jack Roslovic, you’re going nowhere buddy, go ahead and buy yourself a house in Edmonton.”
A third social media user sent out an open appeal to Bowman to find a way to keep the 28-year-old on the roster long term, writing, “Bowman needs to find a way to keep Jack Roslovic on this roster, use the tree planting company method, I don’t care.”
One fan pointed out that the Oilers got a steal with the one-year deal. “$1.5 million for Roslovic is wild,” the fan wrote.
One thing is for certain: the 28-year-old has proven himself to be quite valuable for the Oilers this season, and based on how things progress, he could find himself a part of this squad long-term, especially with some money freed up by Connor McDavid’s sacrifice with his contract extension.
