Western Conference Contenders Tipped To Make Big Move for Flames’ Rasmus Andersson

The NHL offseason has brought Rasmus Andersson into the spotlight as trade rumors swirl around the Calgary Flames defenseman. With one year left on his contract, the 28-year-old has become one of the most discussed names on the trade market.

Multiple Western Conference teams are reportedly interested in acquiring the Swedish blueliner before the 2025-26 season begins.

Stars, Golden Knights, Kings Target Rasmus Andersson for Playoff Push

The Dallas Stars, Vegas Golden Knights, and Los Angeles Kings have all emerged as potential landing spots for Andersson. His current contract, worth $27.3 million over six years, expires after the 2025-26 season. This timing makes him an attractive target for contenders seeking defensive depth without a long-term commitment.

No deal has materialized yet, but the situation could change quickly. Insider Frank Seravalli recently suggested that Dallas may enter serious negotiations if it can clear salary cap space. The Stars would need to move contracts like those of Ilya Lyubushkin or Matt Dumba to make room for Andersson’s $4.55 million annual cap hit.

Seravalli called Andersson the “best trade chip” currently available, highlighting his value in the current market.

The Kings have already made their interest known with a substantial offer. TSN’s Darren Dreger revealed that Los Angeles sent Calgary a trade proposal that would, in his words, “blow your socks off.” However, Andersson reportedly declined to waive his no-trade clause, which includes six teams he can block deals to.

Flames Management Downplays Trade Talk

Despite the constant speculation, Flames general manager Craig Conroy has tried to calm the rumors. He insists there’s no conflict between the organization and Andersson. “He’s totally fine with being here,” Conroy said. “He’s always said he’s a Calgary Flame.”

However, the external chatter continues. Some reports suggest Andersson would prefer a move to Vegas if he were to be traded. The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun indicated that if an extension were part of the package, the Golden Knights might be his preferred destination. This would align with Vegas’ aggressive approach to roster building, especially following their recent acquisition of Mitch Marner.

Other teams monitoring the situation include Ottawa and Columbus, though neither has made formal offers public.

TSN’s Chris Johnston also floated an intriguing possibility involving Bowen Byram in a potential Calgary trade. Such a move would represent a significant shift in how the Flames structure their defensive corps.

Andersson brings proven production to any potential suitor. He recorded 11 goals and 31 points in 81 games last season while averaging over 23 minutes of ice time per game. His combination of offensive ability and defensive reliability makes him valuable for teams with Stanley Cup aspirations.

The Flames appear content to wait for the right offer rather than rush into a deal. Whether that changes before training camp or closer to the trade deadline remains uncertain. With so many teams expressing interest, Andersson’s situation will likely dominate headlines until resolved.
