‘Time for Golfing’ — Canadiens Fans Despondent After Tough 5–2 Loss in Game 4

The Montreal Canadiens appeared to have things well in hand in the Sunday, April 27, Game 4 loss against the Washington Capitals after scoring a late second-period goal and taking a 2-1 lead into the game’s final frame.

However, the Capitals ruined the party that rowdy Canadiens fans were planning on throwing thanks to a pair of quick goals that not only knotted the score but gave them the lead; they scored two more times into Montreal’s vacated net to secure a 5-2 victory.

The Capitals now lead the series 3-1 and are returning to the friendly confines of Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Canadiens Fans Rip Apart the Squad After Game 4 Loss

Canadiens fans seemed to sense that the end was approaching after the disappointing loss to the Capitals, putting them within a single game of being knocked from the postseason.

One fan kept it simple and appeared ready to call it quits: “Time for golfing.”

Another fan called out Montreal’s playing system, saying, “Instead of playing like they did in game 3, y’all played a soft and defensive game instead of offence. Way to change the system.”

Another Habs fan took things to an inappropriate level, saying, “No other choice we need to injured all their players next game.”

This fan called out defenseman Lane Hutson’s mistake that led to a Capitals goal, saying, “This was the Worst game Lane has played this season. We deserved a better fate tonight, but all it takes is a few defensive lapses to lose a game.”

However, not every fan was in a somber mood, as evidenced by this fan looking to the future: “It’s alright boys again being in the playoffs was our goal the fact we took 1 game is a huge win the future is really bright we can only take this series 1 at a time and see how it goes.”

Canadiens Coach Martin St. Louis Called Out the Officiating

It was clear from his postgame media remarks that Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis, a long-time NHL player and Stanley Cup winner in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning, was extremely frustrated with what he believed was a poor performance by the on-ice officials.

“I just don’t know. … I don’t know. It’s hard,” he said. “I’ll be careful with my words, but it’s hard to watch some of these calls. Like tonight, one of the mandates [from the NHL] was about embellishing.”

The Habs have no choice but to win Game 5, or else their season comes to an official close.
