The Calgary Flames are going through a tough stretch this season. With a 3-9-2 record, they sit last in the Pacific Division. Their offense has been quiet, and their defense has looked weak at times. Nazem Kadri leads the team with 10 points, and Blake Coleman has five goals, but the rest of the lineup has not produced much.
Even though the Flames recently beat the Flyers and Rangers, they have not been able to stay consistent. Defensive mistakes and poor offensive pressure continue to hurt them. With things not improving, the pressure on head coach Ryan Huska is starting to grow.
Did Ryan Huska’s Comment Push Fans Too Far?
Huska’s name has been trending for reasons other than hockey. After a Flames game last week, a clip of Huska began to spread online. In the video, he talked about using ChatGPT to study his team’s performance. He said he entered data from five games, including goals, player shooting percentages, and shot totals, to project future scoring.
“So, I went down a rabbit hole last night after watching this game here, and I put in you guys use ChatGPT? I put in five games, and the goals that we’ve scored. I gave it a bunch of different things to go in there, people’s career shooting percentage, the amount of shots they’ve taken in those five games, projected over the course of the year,” Huska said.
The clip quickly drew reactions from fans on X. Many shared their frustration, saying they couldn’t believe a head coach would rely on AI for team analysis.

“I’d fire a coach on the spot if he needed ChatGPT for anything coaching-wise,” a fan said, referring to Huska’s use of ChatGPT.
“I’m generally a Huska defender, but this is f***in bad lmao,” another fan said, referring to the coach’s long-time supporters who found this situation disappointing
A user added, “If I were a player and my coach was talking to me about how he’s using ChatGPT to do his job, I’d lose all respect for him right there on the spot.”
One fan took a sarcastic tone, writing, “Dude said f**k the analytics department and Snow’s legacy. How about I use AI?”
Referring to the team’s scoring issues, a fan shared, “I don’t think you have to use AI to point out this team can’t score.”
Huska may have only been curious about new tools, but his approach didn’t sit well with fans. Up next, the Flames will face the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. EST. Calgary will look to bounce back and end their struggles against a Blue Jackets team that holds a 7-5-0 record this season.
