‘TEARS IN MY EYES’ – Avalanche Fans Can’t Believe What They Witnessed in Game 5 Against Stars

The Colorado Avalanche were thoroughly embarrassed by the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of their Round 1 series on Monday night, losing by a 6-2 final score at American Airlines Center.

The Stars now enjoy a 3-2 series lead and have a chance to close out the Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver on Thursday night. Dallas scored early and often, breaking the ice just nine seconds after the opening face-off thanks to Wyatt Johnston.

Avalanche Fans Blasted Their Club on Social Media After the Loss

Understandably, Avalanche fans were in no joyful mood after the loss that put them one setback away from elimination from the postseason.

One fan kept his reaction simple and sweet: “TEARS IN MY EYES.”

Another fan referenced last season’s playoff loss to the Stars, saying, “Just lose in game 6 like always so we can get the yearly Dallas heartbreak out of the way. What a joke this teams been.”

Another fan called out the lacking performance of defenseman Cale Makar, saying, “Makar has to be injured right?? Been a complete non factor this series. I’m chalking it up to injury.”

Speaking of calling out Avalanche players, someone else called out Valeri Nichushkin, saying, “I really don’t think Val takes playoffs seriously . In fact I would really stick on him tonight , he is high risk between now and next game.”

Another fan wished for more physicality, saying, “It’s games like this when I wish the Avs would dress players with more size and grit.”

Finally, this fan blasted the whole team aside from Nathan MacKinnon, saying, “Only one Av took it to another level tonight and that was #29. The rest might as well not even dress next game if that’s all you got.”

Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog Preached Having a Short Memory

With their backs against the wall, Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, who recently returned to the lineup for the first time since their 2022 Stanley Cup run, emphasized the importance of not dwelling on the disappointing loss as they head into Game 6.

“Obviously we put ourselves in a little bit of a hole,” Landeskog said. “Started scratching and clawing our way back into it. I thought we were starting to play really well. Then a couple calls goes against us and we make a couple of bad decisions, give up some odd-man rushes and stuff. So some of those (are) self-inflicted tonight.

“Short memory. Learn from it. Move on.”

The time for puck drop in Game 6 in Denver has yet to be announced by the NHL.
