The Washington Capitals have salvaged their season, which initially looked forgettable, and now sit in third place in the Metropolitan Division with 28 points, savoring a two-game win streak against the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Winnipeg Jets.
Of course, there is Captain Alex Ovechkin at the helm of it all. At 40, Ovi looks unstoppable. Then there is Ovechkin’s wife, Anastasia Shubskaya, never missing an opportunity to cheer for the Capitals captain from the sidelines.
Alex Ovechkin’s Wife, Anastasia Shubskaya, Shows Her Unwavering Support for the Capitals on Social Media
You can always trust Shubskaya to show up for the Capitals, and you can count on her to be unapologetically loud about it. During the Capitals’ latest showdown against the Jets, Ovechkin’s wife marked a first-row appearance as the Capitals took down Winnipeg 4-3 in a real roller-coaster of a battle.
As the game progressed, Shubskaya kept her social media followers updated through her Instagram stories. Ovechkin’s wife arrived with the couple’s two children, both wearing jerseys that read “Ovechkin” and “Ovi JR.” Shubskaya also shared priceless moments celebrating her husband on the ice, as well as other priceless moments from the match and some behind-the-scenes madness in the locker room.

The showdown on Wednesday will be memorable for the Capitals’ brass, and particularly for Ovechkin. Not only did a win over the Jets bolster the team’s confidence as it approaches a very critical juncture of the season, but Ovi also scored his 908th NHL goal. The Captain was honored with a pregame ceremony for reaching 900 goals and playing 1,500 NHL games.
Against the Jets, the 40-year-old helped the Capitals edge past by giving the team a 3-2 lead at 5:22 of the second period. HC Spencer Carbery highlighted the very special role the veteran forward continues to have on his team. “He always finds ways to have an impact on the game when it’s a big night or important moment and tonight was no different,” Carbery stated, as reported by NHL’s independent correspondent Harvey Valentine.
After Ovechkin successfully ended his pursuit of the elusive Wayne Gretzky record, many speculated that there was nothing to look forward to from the veteran forward anymore. Proving them wrong, Ovechkin surpassed Gordie Howe’s record of the most NHL regular-season goals at a single venue in the history of the league. In the Capitals’ showdown against the Montreal Canadiens, Ovi celebrated his 33rd NHL hat trick.
While there is no way to know if this is the last season fans are getting to enjoy the 40-year-old’s exploits on ice, if it is, Ovechkin has bestowed us with enough memories to last a lifetime and beyond.
