NFL World Reacts to Deebo Samuel Going Off on the Eagles in Revenge Game

The 49ers' Deebo Samuel went off on the team he had openly criticized and trash-talked all offseason. What were the reactions?

Deebo Samuel became the one delivering the final goodbye at Lincoln Financial Stadium at the 10:43 mark of the fourth quarter.

The San Francisco 49ers star was seen mocking the home Philadelphia Eagles crowd. He was also seen making a mockery out of the Eagles defense, taking three short passes and turning them all into touchdowns in the 42-19 trouncing of the NFC champs. In the process, Samuel became the toast of the 49ers and NFL social media in a game he clearly had on his mind.

Deebo Samuel Showered With Praise Online

Samuel chose anger and retaliation from that 31-7 loss the last time he and the Niners were in Philly. Weeks of explaining how his Niners were the better team were taken out on the Eagles. He even let it be known beforehand with reporters that he had no regrets trash-talking the team that ended their season back in January.

The 49ers were in their trickery bag right away with their “wide back.” On two occasions, he helped extend a pair of eight-point Eagles deficits.

Then, using the brute force that’s made him one of the more physical players in the league, Samuel rumbled past the Eagles here to shatter any hopes of a closer game.

Even after the final wave to the crowd, Samuel completed the hat trick by blowing through the Eagles on this short pass turned into a long-scoring scamper.

Samuel got hit with praise, from online to the postgame press conference.

“Deebo is one of the best football players I’ve ever seen. Performances like that don’t surprise me…People were saying things about what he said before the game, but it’s safe to say his actions spoke louder than his words,” said 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner after the game with reporters.

All-Pro left tackle for the 49ers Trent Williams added, “He’s a special player, and I think his performance today shows that he’s a special player.”

Fans, though, couldn’t help but laugh at Samuel sending his final goodbyes to a team he began to loathe.

How Did Samuel React to Epic Day?

With all the offseason chatter directed toward the Eagles, was Samuel applying too much pressure on himself to break out?

“Definitely didn’t put too much pressure on myself,” Samuel said while smiling at reporters postgame. “At the end of the day, they beat us in the NFC Championship Game, and we wanted to get back. At the end of the day, though, it’s football. We’re talking trash, having fun, and we just came out here and got a win.”

Samuel ended up catching four passes for 116 yards. But again, three of those catches became long scores for him.

“Just getting in space in open field and breaking tackles — which is what I’m really good at anyway,” Samuel said in explaining what he saw on the field that led to his hat trick of touchdowns.

He did have one last message about the trash talk.

“Hopefully nobody took it to heart. Because it’s all fun and games at the end of the day,” Samuel said.

Still, Samuel backed up his belief that the 49ers were the better team over the reigning conference champions. All that talk, all those weeks thinking about retaliation against the Eagles, all that got unloaded by the man who clearly couldn’t wait for his return to Philly.
