The Vikings’ offense is beginning to evolve. Quarterback J.J. McCarthy is settling in. The running game has finally started to complement the passing game. Aaron Jones has been the difference, providing Minnesota with speed and control on early downs. His availability against Baltimore is a key factor in how the game unfolds.
Aaron Jones’ Status Comes Into Focus Before Kickoff
Jones is expected to play Sunday against the Ravens, per a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. The veteran running back left last week’s 27–24 win in Detroit after a third-quarter hit on his shoulder, later diagnosed as a mild AC joint sprain. After missing Wednesday’s practice, Jones returned in a limited capacity Thursday and Friday.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said the team wanted to give him time to recover before increasing his workload later in the week. Trainers and staff closely monitored him through walkthroughs and contact drills to ensure he would be ready to handle his full share of touches. Before leaving the game, Jones was the engine of Minnesota’s attack.
He posted 98 total yards on 11 touches and repeatedly gashed Detroit’s front for chunk gains. His ability to create positive plays on early downs helped McCarthy keep drives alive and open up passing lanes for receivers Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison.
The Key to the Vikings’ Offense
If Jones plays as expected, Minnesota’s offense can maintain the structure that worked so well last week. The Vikings averaged 6.5 yards per play in the first half at Ford Field, a pace built on quick tempo and efficient decision-making. Jones’ versatility keeps defenses honest, which will be critical against a Ravens defense that ranks near the top of the league in blitz rate but hasn’t consistently finished plays in the backfield.
If Jones is limited, backup running back Jordan Mason will carry the load. He’s been dependable but doesn’t stretch defenses in the same way. That difference in explosiveness could define how this game unfolds. The Vikings offense ranks 27th in PFSN’s OFFi.
Kickoff between the Vikings (4-4) and Ravens (3-5) is set for 12 p.m. CT Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium.
