NFL Insider Albert Breer released his weekly mailbag column on Wednesday. In it, he addressed the Denver Broncos. When asked if Bo Nix was the long-term answer at quarterback, Breer offered a surprising explanation. More on this below. That said, Nix and Co. are looking to extend their winning streak to eight in Week 11 vs. the Kansas City Chiefs.
Albert Breer on Bo Nix
Getting to Breer on Nix.
Breer said, “I know Sean Payton loves Bo Nix. I also bet, deep down, he is happy he doesn’t have to make that decision yet. The first real indicators about the Broncos’ long-term intentions with Nix will come after 2026, when he’ll be eligible for a second contract for the first time, and Denver will have to decide on his fifth-year option. To be clear, I really don’t know which way they’ll go on those calls, which illustrates where I think the Broncos are with him right now.”
Based on Breer’s words, it sounds like Nix will be around for the 2026 season, debunking Colin Cowherd’s question of whether head coach Sean Payton moves on from Nix after Year 2.
Nix is polarizing. He has three games with a sub-70 passer rating and four games with three-plus touchdowns. In addition, Nix has four come-from-behind wins as well. That said, he is No. 28 in completion percentage and No. 27 in passer rating. For every positive statistic, there’s an alarming one that follows. Nix is No. 17 in PFSN’s QB Impact Score as well.
The question becomes, are these growing pains or signs that Nix is not a franchise quarterback? Hold up, wait a minute. There are more Nix stats.
Bo Nix has nearly identical stats as Patrick Mahomes since Bo entered the NFL in 2024:
Mahomes Bo
6,277 pass yard 5,901 pass yard
43 pass TDs 47 pass TDs
16 INTs 20 INTs
592 rush yard 635 rush yard

Since entering the league in 2024, Nix’s stats are nearly identical to those of Patrick Mahomes. Both players’ stats are below.
Mahomes has 6,277 passing yards, 43 passing touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He has 592 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns as well.
Nix has 5,901 passing yards, 47 passing touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. He has 635 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns as well.
Ball doesn’t lie. It’ll be interesting for Broncos fans to see how Nix performs in the second half of the season. Unlike Mahomes, Nix is still in his developmental stages since entering the league. We won’t know what Nix is until the end of his second season.
