Entering Week 11, there were a lot of questions surrounding Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix’s job security. He was coming off back-to-back sub-70 passer rating games. That said, Broncos head coach Sean Payton has shut down all rumors surrounding Nix, who is still in his developmental stages. Nix and Co. downed the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 11, 22-19. Here’s a fun fact, too: Nix and Co. have defeated both Super Bowl participants this season.
Sean Payton on Bo Nix’s Performance
Payton talked to the media after the Broncos defeated the Chiefs in Week 11. He talked about Nix’s performance in the game, among other things.
Payton said, “He’s outstanding. I think [he played] real well, he won. It’s his job. He won against a pretty stingy defense that can give you problems. There were some big plays there, and we had some early field position in the first half, and I’m like, man, there’s a couple of those field goals. One of them just needed to be a touchdown. I felt at halftime good about where we were relative to the matchup of our defense and their offense.”
Nix’s performance in Week 11 was impressive because it was against a Texans-like defense. Coming into Week 11, the Chiefs allowed the seventh-fewest yards per game, including the 11th-fewest passing yards per game. That said, Nix was sensational. His numbers are below.
Nix’s passing stat line: 24-of-37 for 295 yards, eight yards per attempt, and a 89.4 passer rating.
The subtle philosophical shift is happening. That said, the Broncos called 10 passes compared to three runs on their opening drive. Nix, No. 17 in PFSN’s QB Impact Score, has attempted 35-plus passes in two of his last three games. Unlike earlier in the season, this was not dictated by game script. Week 11 was a one-possession game the entire game.
It’ll be interesting to see for Broncos fans if Nix can doctor his completion percentage and passer rating after the bye week, though. Through 11 weeks, he has a 61.2% completion percentage and an 86.1 passer rating. Again, Nix is in his developmental stages. The biggest takeaway, though, is that the Broncos recorded another signature win, with Nix throwing for 295 yards. The touchdowns will come, and hopefully, so will accuracy improvement.
