NFL Schedule 2024: Top 6 Teams Being Overlooked Ahead of Schedule Release

With the 2024 NFL schedule release just around the corner, let's look at six overlooked teams that deserve more prime-time consideration.

With the 2024 NFL schedule set for a May 15 release, we probably can guess which teams will land the most prime-time games. The Kansas City Chiefs surely will land a few, as will ever-entertaining teams like the Dallas Cowboys. But which teams could get snubbed before eventually proving they deserved more prime-time consideration?

Let’s look at six teams that might be overlooked for one reason or another, but shouldn’t be.

Top 6 Overlooked Teams Ahead of 2024 NFL Schedule Release

Indianapolis Colts

The Indianapolis Colts easily could finish, like, 7-10 and miss the playoffs. Sophomore quarterback Anthony Richardson remains unproven, and no one would confuse Indy’s roster for championship-caliber.

However, the Colts also have the ingredients for a team that could exceed expectations while being among the more entertaining rosters in the NFL. Richardson is a highlight factory, and the Colts have top-tier offensive weapons in receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and Jonathan Taylor. The defense also should be decent, and second-round receiver Adonai Mitchell has the talent to make an immediate impact.

So, don’t sleep on the Colts.

Seattle Seahawks

Nobody’s talking about the Seattle Seahawks. Maybe it’s because they’re closer to Alaska than they are to New York City. Maybe it’s because Geno Smith and Sam Howell are their top quarterbacks. Maybe it’s because Pete Carroll is out, and the far less entertaining Mike Macdonald is in.

Regardless, we’re talking about a team that’s posted a winning record in 11 of the last 12 seasons. The Seahawks always are at least respectable, and this season shouldn’t be any different. Smith has great weapons to work with, and the defense has been retooled with young, intriguing talent.

Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans are kind of like the Colts. No one would be surprised to look up next April and find them back atop the NFL Draft board. Plus, we have no idea whether Brian Callahan will be an adequate replacement for Mike Vrabel.

However, the Titans could surprise a lot of people if sophomore quarterback Will Levis can play. The offense has real talent with Tony Pollard, DeAndre Hopkins, and Calvin Ridley, and the defense has Jeffery Simmons and L’Jarius Sneed, among others. Keep an eye on Tennessee.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots could sneak up on people this year. The defense should give them a manageable floor, and the offense might not be as bad as people think, especially with Mac Jones and a slew of underqualified assistants now out of the picture. But this is all about Drake Maye, the No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Nobody will care about New England if Jacoby Brissett is the QB; he’s Jacoby Brissett, after all. And Jerod Mayo obviously isn’t as bizarrely fascinating as Bill Belichick. However, if Maye gets a shot and plays well, and the young receiving core outperforms expectations, New England’s offense could be surprisingly entertaining.

Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders shouldn’t be any good. And they probably won’t be. But if Jayden Daniels really is the next Lamar Jackson, people will want a look.

Washington’s roster isn’t that bad. There are some decent players on offense, including Terry McLaurin, and the defensive line is excellent. If Daniels lives up to the hype, this group could turn some heads.

Cleveland Browns

This probably is a straw-man take, but it feels like people are overlooking the Cleveland Browns. Everyone knows they have a good roster, yet there doesn’t seem to be much buzz. Maybe it’s because they’re, you know, the Browns.

But make no mistake: This is one of the best all-around rosters in football. And if QB Deshaun Watson plays well, the Browns should be legitimate Super Bowl contenders. They likely will land a couple of prime-time games, but we might look back and say they deserved more.
