The Miami Dolphins are in a position where they are going to need some depth additions through free agency to bolster their roster. The cornerback position is one of the spots the team needs to address, as they have been actively shopping Jalen Ramsey, who is under contract through the 2028 season and sees a significant rise in the cap hit beginning this season.
The Dolphins are coming off missing the postseason, and the organization was 11th last season with a 79.3 Defense+ grade. Who is the cornerback the team is interested in adding, and what would it mean for the team going forward?

Miami Dolphins Reportedly Interested in Adding Asante Samuel Jr.
According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Dolphins recently called free agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. to inquire about his interest in joining the team. The report noted that he has yet to receive an offer from Miami, but the Dolphins are interested in staying in contact as the 25-year-old cornerback recovers from neck surgery.
Samuel was limited to just four games last season and has spent the first four years of his career with the Los Angeles Chargers before becoming an unrestricted free agent this offseason. In 50 games (47 starts), he has six interceptions, 37 pass deflections, one fumble recovery, and three tackles for loss.
If the Dolphins sign Samuel, it could mean the end of Ramsey, as the team would have a backup option for their top cornerback spot. Miami has also had discussions with free-agent cornerback Rasul Douglas, so there is a chance those two could be added to bolster the secondary.
The team drafted Jason Marshall Jr. in the fifth round of the NFL Draft to help with the secondary. With the Dolphins playing three cornerbacks in their starting defense, they currently have Ramsey, Storm Duck, and Kader Kohou as their starting corners if the season were to begin today.
Samuel also has interest from other locations, as he has had a meeting with the New Orleans Saints this offseason. He did clarify the injury was a stinger, being an issue he has dealt with since birth, but did not dive deeper than that.
Miami is going to be an interesting team this upcoming season, and if they can add Samuel to their secondary, it could really bolster a weaker position group. There is also the chance that this move could mean Ramsey stays and creates a solid 1-2 cornerback duo. According to Over The Cap, the Dolphins have over $13.7 million of cap space for the 2025 season.
