Which officiating crew has thrown the most penalty flags in the first eight weeks?

Scott Novak’s crew cemented their place at the top of the list for the most flags thrown per game last week. The NFL ref and his crew threw a total of 21 flags, their second-highest number of the season. On average, they throw 0.7 more flags per game than the next highest crew.

At the other end of the spectrum is Bill Vinovich’s crew, who have thrown just 11.1 flags per game. That is more than a flag fewer per game than the next lowest (Ron Torbert), and more than two below the fourth-lowest.

This week in prime time, we have two NFL refs whose crews have thrown an average to below-average number of flags. Brad Rogers’ crew will officiate the Sunday Night Football game. They have thrown an average of 15.1 flags per game this season.

Meanwhile, on Monday Night Football, we get Tony Corrente as the referee. His crew has thrown the third-least flags per game at 12.7.
