NFL Week 17 Predictions Against the Spread: Browns beat Steelers, head to playoffs

Against a backdrop of disruption, we have somehow made it to the final week of the NFL regular season. Although some teams have already booked their playoff spot, there is plenty of drama left to unfold. How will the playoff picture look in the end? Our Week 17 NFL predictions against the spread have the answers for you.

Week 17 NFL predictions: Sunday, January 3rd, 1:00 pm ET

New York Jets @ New England Patriots

After 13 straight defeats, the New York Jets are on a winning streak to end the 2020 NFL season! After beating two teams that ordinarily like to run the ball, they face a New England Patriots team that is one of the most run-heavy teams in the league this year. The Jets were just a field goal away from overtime when the two teams met earlier this year. Can they overcome their bitter divisional rivals to end the season on a high note?

Final score prediction: New York Jets 24, New England Patriots 21

Miami Dolphins @ Buffalo Bills

If someone had told you at the start of the season that this AFC East clash would have playoff implications for both teams, you would have been promptly carted them away to an asylum.

However, this is 2020. The Buffalo Bills are already in the playoffs as AFC East winners. Meanwhile, Miami joins four other teams with a 10-5 record looking to join the party. The Bills won the first clash between the two teams, and it isn’t easy to look past Josh Allen leading them to another win.

Final score prediction: Miami Dolphins 24, Buffalo Bills 28

Baltimore Ravens (-11.0) @ Cincinnati Bengals

It’s a “win and in” scenario for the Baltimore Ravens after their Week 16 victory over the New York Giants. They comfortably beat the Cincinnati Bengals earlier in the season. Despite Brandon Allen guiding them to a first road win since 2018 in Week 16, the Bengals will struggle to hold the Ravens ground game. I fully expect to see Lamar Jackson and the Ravens playing football in January.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 AFC North rivalry — Ravens win but fail to cover the spread.

Final score prediction: Baltimore Ravens 27, Cincinnati Bengals 21

Pittsburgh Steelers @ Cleveland Browns (-6.5)

A depleted Cleveland Browns team slipped to the New York Jets last week, depriving NFL fans of a battle for the AFC North. Although the Pittsburgh Steelers were crowned kings of the north for the first time since 2017, the Browns have far more to gain from this game.

As a result, I expect the Browns to come out swinging and secure the win they need to make the playoffs. Baker Mayfield took responsibility for the defeat to the Jets and will be motivated to bounce back with a win.

Final score prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers 21, Cleveland Browns 24

Minnesota Vikings @ Detroit Lions

After the Minnesota Vikings were eliminated from the playoff race by the New Orleans Saints, all that is left to fight for in this NFC North matchup is pride. The Detroit Lions have never been in the playoff picture after a dismal season. Their defense has been abysmal this season. As a result, Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson could add to their already impressive season statistics in a high scoring affair.

Final score prediction: Minnesota Vikings 41, Detroit Lions 28

Dallas Cowboys (-2.5) @ New York Giants

After suffering ridicule throughout the season, the NFC East is the best place for action and excitement in Week 17!

Any one of three teams could emerge victorious from Sunday’s games. The Dallas Cowboys are riding the hot hand with three consecutive wins behind Andy Dalton. Meanwhile, the New York Giants offense has failed to score 20 points in their last five games. The Cowboys win, but will it be enough to clinch the division?

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 NFC East rivalry game — Dallas wins and covers the spread.

Final score prediction: Dallas Cowboys 31, New York Giants 21

Atlanta Falcons @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.0)

Although the Atlanta Falcons thwarted the Kansas City Chiefs for large swathes of Week 16, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will prove too strong for them. Tom Brady and the Buccaneers demolished the Detroit Lions to book their playoff place last week. A repeat of Week 15’s high scoring but close-fought matchup should be in order.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 NFC South matchup — Buccaneers win with a push on the spread.

Final score prediction: Atlanta Falcons 28, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 34

Week 17 NFL predictions: Sunday, January 3rd, 4:25 pm ET

Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans

The last time these two AFC South rivals met, Derrick Henry outbattled Deshaun Watson as the Tennessee Titans defeated the Houston Texans 42-36 in an overtime thriller. Although the Titans suffered a heavy defeat to the Green Bay Packers in Week 16, they should bounce back with the AFC South title on the line. The Texans have lost their last four games, including two divisional defeats to the Indianapolis Colts.

Final score prediction: Tennessee Titans 31, Houston Texans 21

New Orleans Saints (-5.0) @ Carolina Panthers

There is still a glimmer of hope for the New Orleans Saints that they can secure home-field advantage. As a result, they should overcome a Carolina Panthers team eliminated from the playoff race some time ago. However, with an expected Green Bay Packers win, the victory may prove fruitless for their playoff outlook anyway.

Final score prediction: New Orleans Saints 27, Carolina Panthers 23

Los Angeles Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs

In Justin Herbert’s first game in the NFL, the Los Angeles Chargers took the Kansas City Chiefs to overtime. We can expect to see another close game in Week 17.

The Chiefs haven’t won by more than one score since their Week 8 win over the New York Jets. With a first-round bye secured, there is no need to put Patrick Mahomes at any great risk in the season finale. Although it should be a close game, the Chiefs should still come out with a win.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 AFC West matchup — no spread available at the time of writing.

Final score prediction: Los Angeles Chargers 24, Kansas City Chiefs 27

Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts (-14.5)

The Trevor Lawrence era in Florida was secured last week with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ sorry performance against the Chicago Bears.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts capitulated spectacularly against the Pittsburgh Steelers to leave a playoff spot outside their control. Getting the win they need over the Jaguars won’t be an issue. However, they also need many results to go their way, which is far less certain.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 AFC South clash — Indianapolis wins and covers the spread.

Final score prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars 14, Indianapolis Colts 34

Green Bay Packers @ Chicago Bears

It’s been a rollercoaster of a season for the Chicago Bears. After starting the season with six wins, then losing six, Mitch Trubisky has put the Bears’ playoff destiny in their hands.

The Packers, meanwhile, have been impressive on their way to an NFC North title. A win over the Bears will give them a bye and home-field advantage on the road to the Super Bowl. Despite the Bears’ recent form, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams will prove too much.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 NFC North clash — no spread available at the time of writing.

Final score prediction: Green Bay Packers 31, Chicago Bears 23

Las Vegas Raiders @ Denver Broncos (-1.5)

With neither team in the playoff race in Week 17, this AFC West rivalry game is just for pride and NFL Draft position.

Drew Lock threw four interceptions last time the two teams clashed. Although it’s unrealistic to expect that level of poor performance again from the Denver Broncos offense, their defense will still have their hands full with Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. As a result, the same outcome can be expected if not the scoreline.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 AFC West rivalry — Raiders win and cover the spread.

Final score prediction: Las Vegas Raiders 27, Denver Broncos 23

Arizona Cardinals @ Los Angeles Rams

The NFC West provides us with the game of the week in terms of playoff race implications. It’s a true “win and in” situation for both teams as the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals go to battle. If the Rams win, they’re in. If the Cardinals win, they’re in. However, if the Cardinals win and the Chicago Bears win, the Rams would be out of the playoff picture.

Despite defeats to the New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks, I expect the Rams rush defense to smother the Cardinals’ ground game and emerge victorious in a close game.

NFL predictions against the spread for this NFC West playoff decider — no spread available at the time of writing.

Final score prediction: Arizona Cardinals 21, Los Angeles Rams 24

Seattle Seahawks (-4.5) @ San Francisco 49ers (+4.5)

Although the Seattle Seahawks offense has slowed down towards the end of the season, they should still overpower a San Francisco 49ers team with serious issues at the quarterback position. A Seahawks rush defense that ranks third in the NFL for yards allowed will be more than enough to negate the 49ers as Seattle heads to the playoffs with the NFC West title under their belt.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 NFC West rivalry — Seahawks win but fail to cover the spread.

Final score prediction: Seattle Seahawks 20, San Francisco 49ers 16

Sunday, January 3rd, 8:20 pm ET

Washington Football Team @ Philadelphia Eagles (-1.5)

It’s been a long season for both teams since the Washington Football Team beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-17 on opening day. The Eagles’ defeat to the Dallas Cowboys means they are out of the playoff race. However, can they play spoiler as Washington attempts to secure the NFC East title?

Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Washington defense will be too strong for Jalen Hurts and prove the difference-maker in a low scoring affair.

NFL predictions against the spread for this Week 17 NFC East title decider — Washington wins and covers the spread.

Final score predictions: Washington Football Team 18, Philadelphia Eagles 14
