Andy Reid has more recent Super Bowl experience than any head coach in the NFL. As far as anyone is concerned, he is the closest thing to Bill Belichick at the height of the league’s current power.
The NFL is predicated on rewards. Otherwise, no one would sign up to risk everything from a young age as a player and an older age as a coach to break into it. One NFL insider has claimed Reid hasn’t earned enough for his efforts to climb the mountain.

Mike Florio Calls for Kansas City Chiefs To Upgrade Andy Reid’s Deal
Speaking on a May 20 edition of “Pro Football Talk,” NFL insider Mike Florio named a handful of players making $30 million that he believed brought less to the table than Reid.
“I’m going to tell you the names of the players who are making $30 million per year. Amon-Ra St. Brown, Derek Stingley Jr., Tyreek Hill, Brandon Aiyuk. $30 million per year. There’s no way you’d rather have any of those players versus Andy Reid. You want Reid. This is nothing against the players. The point is, Reid should be making $30 million a year.”
When Reid joined the Chiefs in 2013, the franchise was coming off a two-win season. Now, the franchise has become the biggest superpower of the 2020s. It all happened on Reid’s watch. However, Florio didn’t lead with the elephant in the room with Reid’s salary.
How Reid’s Salary Stacks Up in the NFL
According to a May 11 report by Sports Illustrated, Reid’s salary ranks first in terms of annual salary in the entire NFL. The Chiefs’ head coach is set to make $20 million in 2025, which leads over some of the biggest names in the game.
Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton earns $18 million per season. Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay, who has won a Super Bowl in the 2020s, is set to earn $15 million in 2025.
Taking Reid to $30 million would give him a 50% raise and extend his lead over Payton by $12 million.
Of course, if that happens, Payton has every reason to ask for a raise in turn. He finished the 2025 season by blowing out Reid 38-0 in one of the worst losses of his entire career. If not for a fluky blocked field goal earlier in the year, the Chiefs should have been swept by Denver.
So, if Reid gets a raise, it could trigger additional fallout in the AFC West. Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh also could arguably be in line for a raise if he keeps pace with the Chiefs this season.
Will the Chiefs reward Reid in the shadow of a Super Bowl defeat?
