2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee Brett Favre is shocked with how this season has gone for Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets. In a recent interview with TMZ, Favre discussed everything from the direction of the franchise, the play of his former teammate Rodgers, and the future of the four-time MVP with the Jets organization and in the NFL.
Though now retired, Favre played professional football for 20 seasons, spending various lengths of time with the Atlanta Falcons, Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, and the aforementioned Jets. Though most notably known for his time with the Packers, Favre has a unique perspective on Jets drama as he played with Gang Green near the end of his career like Rodgers.
What Did Favre Say to TMZ about Rodgers?
In the video uploaded to YouTube, Favre detailed numerous interesting quotes about the state of the Jets and Rodgers.
- “At times, we’ve seen old Aaron.”
- “I think they are very talented on offense, but something is just not right.”
- “Up to this point, it has been a disappointment.”
Those were just some of the sentiments outlined by the former quarterback.
While he did highlight the problems with the situation, he outlined how he still thinks Rodgers “has it,” meaning the ability to play at a high level in the National Football League.
Where Do the Jets and Rodgers Go After Disappointing Campaign?
After being viewed as a favorite for the AFC top seed, including by NFL Network’s Peter Schrager, the Jets’ season has been a disaster by all accounts. As of this writing, the Jets are currently third in the AFC East with a record of 3-8. Rodgers has a 17:7 touchdown-to-interception ratio and boasts the league’s 24th-best QB rating (51.4).
As a result, the future of both the Jets and Rodgers are largely considered unknown at this point. On Sunday (Nov. 24), NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport explained how Jets owner Woody Johnson needs further proof that Rodgers can still play at the highest level to continue as his team’s quarterback.
He detailed the situation by posting, “Back with the #Jets in 2025? For QB Aaron Rodgers, it’s far from a guarantee. Sources say Rodgers must play far better down the stretch for Woody Johnson to bring him back next year.”
As is clear, the Jets and Rodgers story is far from finished and will most likely depend on how both parties finish the remaining six games of the regular season.
