The New York Giants reshaped their future in the 2025 NFL Draft, and NFL insider Peter Schrager believes the selection of running back Cam Skattebo played a pivotal role. Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, Schrager outlined how this draft not only addressed key roster gaps but also changed the perception of the Giants’ leadership.

“I look at the way the draft fell and there was some some picks that we praised all this stuff in day three,” Schrager said. “Like Cam Scatterbow is a household name and is a guy that Giants fans are going to absolutely love.”
Schrager emphasized how New York executed a high-impact draft from start to finish. Major needs were promptly met by first-round picks Abdul Carter and Jaxson Dart, while the success of the front office was solidified by later selections, particularly Cam Skattebo and offensive lineman Marcus Mbow.
“He’s a piece of a Giants draft where they totally changed the narrative on how their fan base looks at their front office, how their fan base looks at that uniform in the matter of three days,” Schrager continued. “By executing the Abdul Carter and Jackson Dart first round, which is what they were hoping to do. And then getting Marcus Bowe, who is an awesome offensive lineman out of Purdue as late as they did, and then getting household name like Scattebo.”
According to Schrager, the Giants didn’t just draft players—they rebuilt confidence in their football operation. “Like the Giants, they’re the fourth team in the NFC. That’s fine. But I would tell you that after the year they had with hard knocks and with Saquon and Xavier McKinney, and just how bad it was last year for Joe Shanenko to get some laudits in New York and for the New York fans to be like kind of puffing their chest about the draft. That was a major, major deal in New York.”
Analysts outside the show have also lauded the Skattebo pick. According to Pro Football Focus, Skattebo was RB3 and the No. 51 overall player on their Big Board, making him one of the biggest steals of the draft. The Giants landed him in the fourth round after initially thinking they’d have to choose between him and Mbow.
Skattebo lacks top-end speed but compensates with elite production. In 2024, he forced over 100 missed tackles—second only to Ashton Jeanty—and scored 21 touchdowns with 5.8 yards per carry at Arizona State. His top-tier PFF rushing grades in both gap and zone schemes show his versatility.
In a high-pressure draft environment, general manager Joe Schoen’s confident decision-making drew praise from Schrager. “I’m happy they didn’t take your joy, brother, because it could have gotten bad for him.”
In short, Cam Skattebo’s arrival is more than just a pick—it’s a symbol of a front office regaining trust and asserting vision.
