There has been endless talk surrounding the top quarterback prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft, most notably Shedeur Sanders. But after the consensus top three players at the position (Sanders, Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart), there is a group of quarterbacks with the potential to develop into NFL starters.
Recently, NFL Insider Albert Breer mentioned one prospect in particular who has caught the eye of teams ahead of the draft.

Albert Breer Reveals One Quarterback Prospect Has ‘A Good Amount Of Buzz’
In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Breer touched on a number of talking points regarding the 2025 NFL Draft. One of those talking points was Louisville prospect Tyler Shough, who has had an interesting college career. Breer mentions that there is interest in Shough, who spent seven years in college, collecting four degrees.
“There’s a good amount of buzz around Shough, the 25-year-old Louisville–Texas Tech–Oregon product. He spent seven years in college, two of them backing up Justin Herbert, and has four degrees. He’s a super interesting prospect and another one I can’t wait to dive into.”
While not a Lamar Jackson or Jayden Daniels, Shough showed some ability with his legs in college and tested well at the NFL Combine. Shough’s age and injury history make him a gamble, but he impressed enough when healthy for teams to consider taking a shot. Of Shough’s seven years in college, three were cut short by injury, while the first two were spent backing up Justin Herbert.
In his two healthy years as a starter, Shough led Oregon to a Pac-12 title in 2020 and threw for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 2024. In a recent episode of “The Mina Kimes Show,” Kimes and Nate Tice discussed Shough’s impressive traits and NFL-ready arm talent.
After the aforementioned top-three quarterbacks in the Draft, the order that the chasing pack will be drafted in is up for debate. In the latest seven-round Mock Draft from PFSN’s Reese Decker, Shough is the fifth quarterback off the board. The 25-year-old is taken in round three by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 83rd overall pick.
After Ward is taken first overall, Sanders and Dart come off the board in the first two picks of the second round. Alabama’s Jalen Milroe is next, landing with the New Orleans Saints with the 40th pick. Shough is then the clear fifth quarterback, taken 18 spots ahead of Ohio State product Will Howard, who is taken by the Los Angeles Rams.
