John Harbaugh is the hottest commodity on the head coach market. The former leader of the Baltimore Ravens parted ways with the team after it failed to make the playoffs. The Miami Dolphins are expected to be among the leading contenders for his services, but insider Jordan Schultz says the process is not so simple.
Jordan Schultz Outlines Dolphins’ Process on John Harbaugh and Other Candidates
Miami decided to clean house ahead of the upcoming hiring process. General manager Chris Grier was fired midway through the season, and head coach Mike McDaniel will also be searching for a new home. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains under contract, but he has publicly called for a fresh start following the end of the season.
One of the Dolphins’ top targets is Harbaugh. The former Ravens coach is expected to interview with the franchise sooner rather than later. However, NFL insider Jordan Schultz said on X that while Harbaugh is a leading candidate, Miami plans to take a measured approach to its search.

After 18 seasons as the Ravens’ head coach, Harbaugh fits the profile of a CEO-style coach rather than a specialist on one side of the ball. He has a defensive background, having worked as a defensive backs coach during his time with the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Dolphins announced Saturday that they completed a head coach interview with Klint Kubiak, the current offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle has a bye week as the No. 1 seed in the NFC, allowing Kubiak to interview without distraction during the postseason.
Another significant move came Friday, when Miami announced the hiring of Jon-Eric Sullivan as general manager, filling the vacancy left by Grier’s midseason dismissal. Sullivan spent the past 22 years rising through the executive ranks of the Green Bay Packers, marking his first opportunity as a general manager.
The Dolphins will now continue their search for the right leader to help rebuild the roster. The head coach hire will be a critical step in returning to contention in the AFC East. Whoever earns the job will face a challenging task.
