The New York Jets have given the four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers every opportunity to bring back the team’s momentum, from firing head coach Robert Saleh to bringing in his former teammate Davante Adams.
Despite their efforts, Rodgers still hasn’t seen success this season, and the Jets continue to fall off the slippery slope. They currently have an overall record of 3-8 and show no signs of improvement.
NFL Insider Weighs In on Aaron Rodgers’ Relationship With Owner Woody Johnson
As the Jets continue dwelling on their disappointing season, many rumors surround Rodgers’ rocky relationship with management, raising concerns over his return for another year as he turns 41 on Dec. 2.
According to NFL insiders Rosenblatt and Russini of “The Athletic,” Woodson floated the idea of benching Rodgers and even potentially letting him go mid-season.
In the report, she said, “I’m told Johnson has lost confidence in Rodgers’ ability to lead the team to their first playoff berth in 14 years, a drought that stands as the longest in the major North American professional sports leagues,” she wrote.
“Some on the team believe everyone is simply tiptoeing around the fact that Rodgers isn’t the same player anymore. I’m told no decisions have been made yet, but it appears increasingly likely that the four-time MVP, who is banged up, could be placed on injured reserve or possibly benched over the next few weeks, signaling the end of his disastrous time with the Jets.
“Some around the league say they won’t be surprised if Rodgers is cut in-season. As for Rodgers, his relationship with the owner has been strained for months — that’s not a secret in the building or the locker room. After conversations with sources from the team and around the league, I understand that Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, but not for the New York Jets.”
However, the latest report by NFL insider Jordan Schultz claims that the negative narrative around Johnson and Rodgers’ “fractured relationship” has been “overblown.”

“There has been ongoing communication between them, and both agree the season has been deeply disappointing — with Aaron playing through injuries and the team underperforming,” Schultz shared.
Schultz also revealed that the two spent some time together over dinner a couple of weeks ago and mutually agreed on the team’s disappointing performance this season.
