NFL Announces Historic Brandon Aubrey News As Cowboys Kicker Continues to Dominate

Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey has been an elite performer throughout his career, showcasing one of the strongest legs in the NFL. He was outstanding once again on Thursday Night Football against the Detroit Lions. And although the Cowboys fell 44–30, Aubrey delivered a historic performance, leaving everything on the field.

Cowboys’ Brandon Aubrey Sets Multiple Records in TNF Loss to Lions

Thursday night’s performance might have been one of the brightest highlights of Aubrey’s career, even in a Cowboys loss. The elite kicker rewrote the NFL record book with his first four field goals of the night from 42, 55, 57, and 63 yards.

He later added a 29-yarder in the fourth quarter, marking just the second time in his career that he has converted five field goals in a single game.

Aubrey also became the first player in NFL history to make three field goals of 55 yards or longer in the same game. His 63-yard kick also pushed him beyond his own single-season record for 60-plus-yard field goals, raising his total to three. He previously hit a 64-yarder in Week 2 against the Giants and a 61-yarder in Week 7 against the Commanders.

By drilling the 63-yard field goal, Aubrey also extended his career total of 60-plus-yard field goals to six, further distancing himself from the previous record of four, held by Brett Maher. Aubrey surpassed Maher back in Week 7, and he continues to widen the gap.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Aubrey joined the Cowboys and the NFL in 2023. He has now become the first player in league history to make at least 100 field goals in his first three seasons, converting 103 of his 114 attempts. His accuracy and range are remarkable for a kicker still on a three-year, $2.695 million deal.

“He’s certainly a luxury that I’ve never had before as a coach. I’m not sure anyone has,” Cowboys HC Brian Schottenheimer said postgame. “He’s so good that he has erased any doubt about kicking. If it is 55 yards, he makes it. It doesn’t matter if it is 60 or 65 yards — you just send him out there without thinking twice.”

Aubrey’s historic performances this season will very likely earn him a massive payday in the coming offseason, and there’s little reason for the Cowboys to hesitate in making him the highest-paid kicker in the league, a title currently held by the Chiefs’ Harrison Butker at an average annual value of $6.4 million.

With Thursday’s loss, the Cowboys dropped to 6-6-1 for the season, and their playoff odds took a big hit, dropping by 11.5% to just 9.9%, according to PFSN’s Playoff Predictor.
