NFL Fans Roast Amazon for Featuring Bill Belichick on Thursday Night Football Promo

The New England Patriots once had Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski worthy of promos for networks. But Amazon's latest graphic led to the roasting of the Pats.

Here’s when NFL fans know that the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers rivalry has taken a turn for the worst — when Amazon can’t figure out which Patriots player to place on its graphic to help promote their next game.

TNF Graphic Places Bill Belichick as Patriots Representative, Fans Immediately React

During the Seattle Seahawks and Dallas Cowboys contest, Amazon had a moment to promote its next contest between the Pats and Steelers.

Normally for game promotions, networks choose one player representative for its graphic. The Steelers’ Pro Bowl edge rusher T.J. Watt was the Pittsburgh rep. But, no player was chosen on the Pats’ side…and instead went with head coach Bill Belichick.

In years past, a Steelers-Patriots matchup would have Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, or even Julian Edelman as part of the promo. And that battle has had plenty of historic prime-time and postseason battles. But at 2-9 this season, the Patriots have fallen to a team lacking in talent. Hence the likely decision to plaster Belichick.

Sure enough, fans roasted the Patriots once the graphic went live.

“Team so bad they don’t got a player worthy of showcasing,” one fan said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“He would probably be our best offensive lineman,” another fan said of Belichick.

There were fans who believed Rhamondre Stevenson should’ve been the Pats nominee for the graphic. After all, he is the team’s leading rusher at 580 yards and is tied for the team lead in catches with 37. But still, fans have taken notice of how bad things have gotten for the Pats.

“Yikes. Shows you all you need to know about the state of that franchise currently,” one fan said on X.

One more fan had a different idea, even though this player isn’t a Patriot: They place Drake Maye as the Pats representative — the same Maye who is projected to be a top-five NFL Draft pick at quarterback from North Carolina.

A graphic like the one Amazon showed is considered rare. It’s always players who are used for promotional purposes for the game ahead. Not even two-time Super Bowl-winning head coach Andy Reid has been used to promote Amazon games.

But for the network to resort to Belichick shows how far the six-time Super Bowl champions have fallen.

Not the Only Prime-Time News Involving the Patriots

To make matters worse for the Pats, they ended up with another prime-time change, before that graphic surfaced.

They ended up losing a Monday Night Football game.

Announced by the NFL Thursday, the Patriots ended up getting flexed out of their MNF showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs for Week 15. That now means the Patriots become one of two teams to be a part of the first-ever MNF flex out. In the place of Chiefs-Pats will be the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks.

There’s no word yet on if their Dec. 24 Sunday Night Football contest with the Denver Broncos will get flexed. But considering how their season has gone, it may not be a shock if the Pats don’t receive anymore national prime-time love.
