NFL Fans React to Joe Burrow and Bengals Struggles After QB Signs $275 Million Contract

NFL fans did not hold back after Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals struggled mightily against the Cleveland Browns. How will the Bengals respond next week?

The Cincinnati Bengals and franchise QB Joe Burrow agreed on a new contract on Thursday, which was worth an NFL record $275 million. With Burrow signed long-term, the Bengals would begin the 2023 NFL regular season on the right foot. Right?

The Bengals’ opponent in the opener, their AFC North rival Cleveland Browns, had other ideas. The Browns thumped the Bengals on Sunday afternoon 24-3, and the game was never in doubt.

The Browns dominated the line of scrimmage with Myles Garrett and a ferocious pass rush, and the Bengals never could get out of their way. The Bengals’ offensive line has been an area of weakness over the years, but many around the organization thought Cincinnati had an improved unit heading into 2023.

The Bengals must return to the drawing board to prepare for next week. The Browns not only dominated on defense, but their offensive line dominated the Bengals’ defensive front all game, running the ball at will.

The Browns ran for over 200 yards and kept the Bengals’ supposed high-powered offense on the sideline all afternoon. Cincinnati ran for only 75 yards on the day and was thoroughly outclassed. Their running game was outdone by their passing game, with only 67 yards passing as a team.

This dreadful performance by the Bengals on the heels of the Burrow contract signing leaves football fans with questions and opinions.

What Did Social Media Say Following the Bengals’ Loss?

Some fans compared Burrow and his AFC North QB counterparts to trash cans.

The game was so bad and got out of hand to the point that Burrow was benched in the fourth quarter.

Some compared the Bengals QB and his skilled position players to the Miami Heat. If you recall, in LeBron James’ first season in Miami, the Heat underperformed expectations. The expectations in Cincinnati are Super Bowl or bust, and if the opener is any sign of things to come, it could be a long season for Bengals fans.
