NFL Draft Rumors: Latest on Cardinals, Titans, DeAndre Hopkins, and Potential Trade

What are the latest rumors surrounding DeAndre Hopkins and a potential trade that will send the Arizona Cardinal receiver to a new team in a blockbuster move?

The 2023 NFL Draft has finally arrived. With it comes a multitude of rumors swirling throughout the day, including a potential blockbuster trade between the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, which could have a drastic impact on the draft and 2023 season.

NFL Draft Rumors: DeAndre Hopkins on the Move?

There have been rumblings for several weeks regarding the current situation surrounding star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and the Cardinals. Hopkins is one of the most apparent trade candidates heading into draft night, and recent rumors have linked him to Tennessee.

NFL Insider Mike Florio reports the Cardinals are working on trading the No. 3 overall pick and Hopkins to the Tennessee Titans for the No. 11 pick, plus additional compensation, as the Cardinals have reportedly been interested in moving back from the third spot.

According to Johnny Venerable of PHNX Cardinals, “some NFL teams have been informed that the Arizona Cardinals are finalizing a trade down from pick No. 3, per sources.”

It must be noted, however, that there is some conflicting reporting as NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport tweeted that “while the Titans have had conversations about a potential trade up to No. 3 — among other spots — they have not had conversations centered around star WR DeAndre Hopkins, source said.”

Given the current landscape of the class, the No. 3 selection could prove to be one of the most valuable of them all, especially if Bryce Young goes No. 1 as expected and the Texans pass on C.J. Stroud and select Will Anderson Jr. If accurate, Arizona’s phone will be ringing off the hook for the Ohio State standout.

Arizona is not in the quarterback market, as they have their franchise QB in Kyler Murray, who is continuing to recover from a torn ACL suffered towards the end of the 2022 season. First-time general manager Monti Ossenfort could be looking to fill holes on his roster by adding additional draft capital. Among other teams reportedly interested in moving up were the Indianapolis Colts (No. 4), Seattle Seahawks (No. 5), Detroit Lions (No. 6), and Atlanta Falcons (No.8).

How Tennessee makes this happen is a different story entirely, as it would take a sizable compensation package to acquire Hopkins, but one which could include running back Derrick Henry, as he has been rumored to be available.

After selecting Treylon Burks in the first round last year, if Tennessee makes a move for Hopkins, whichever QB is coming in, assuming this is the choice, would have a dynamic one-two punch at receiver with Hopkins so long as he can stay healthy after missing 15 games over the last two years.

Entering his age-31 season, Hopkins is due to make $19.45 million in 2023 and $14.915 million in 2024, though none is guaranteed. He has a cap number of $30.75 million with the Cardinals in 2023. Trading him before June 1 creates a cap charge of $22.6 million. Trading him after June 1 splits the cap hit equally between 2023 and 2024.

Tennessee is currently 16th in the league in salary cap space at $11.48 million, with Ryan Tannehill and Henry accounting for a $52.96 million cap hit (22.94%).
