The 2025 NFL season has been a rocky ride for the Buffalo Bills. As the team has stumbled to a 7-4 record, they have relinquished pole position in the division to the New England Patriots, while facing some truly horrific losses on the schedule.
Their inconsistency has been a direct result of some underwhelming performances from their quarterback, Josh Allen, who has had a rough start to the season compared to his MVP campaign in 2024.
However, even with some mistakes plaguing him, his overall production remains elite, as evidenced by a historic career accomplishment from the superstar quarterback.

Josh Allen Sets New NFL Record
A slow first half saw the Bills follow up their dreadful showing against the Houston Texans with a 7-3 deficit to the Pittsburgh Steelers heading into the break. Thankfully, the team came alive as a whole in the second.
Beginning with a strip sack returned for a touchdown, there was no looking back for Buffalo, as they scored 20 unanswered points en route to a massive lead in the fourth quarter.
Allen was at the center of it all, adding a touchdown through the air before doubling down with a second score on the ground. It was that second touchdown, early in the fourth quarter, that turned history-making for the reigning MVP.
As the official account of the NFL announced on X immediately afterwards, the touchdown marked the 76th career rushing touchdown of the three-time Pro Bowler, surpassing Cam Newton for the most all-time by a quarterback in league history.

The win inched the Bills ever closer to a spot in the playoffs, which, in a conference where the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs were on the outside looking in, was no small accomplishment from the roster.
The thing that made Allen’s record-breaking moment all the more special was the difference in time. Newton, when he set the record at 75 touchdowns, had suited up in 148 career games, starting 144 of them.
Allen, on the other hand, is in his 122nd career start and 123rd game overall. By that pace, he should be able to add another 15 touchdowns to the list by the time he reaches Newton’s career games played.
Moreover, the playstyle between the two dual-threat quarterbacks is also dramatically different, with the Carolina Panthers legend averaging less than 1.5 passing touchdowns for his career. In contrast, Allen is closer to two touchdowns a night.
Allen is currently the No. 1 quarterback according to PFSN’s Quarterback Impact with a score of 89.6.
