NFL Analyst Predicts Jaguars Upgrade Trevor Lawrence’s Weapons By Adding $27.5 Million Star WR

The Jacksonville Jaguars underachieved last season, and their offense, while not prohibitive, never took the step many had projected under quarterback Trevor Lawrence. And to the surprise of no one, Mac Jones was unable to lead any improvement.

However, one thing to cheer for in Duval was wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr., who looked like a star during his rookie season. Thomas became the fourth rookie in the Super Bowl era to record 1,100 receiving yards and 10 receiving scores

Now, as the Jaguars front office looks to upgrade their offense, which ranked 18th last year on PFSN’s Offense+ metric, one NFL analyst predicts the addition of a Super Bowl-winning receiver, Chris Godwin, could massively boost Jacksonville’s chances in 2025.

Trevor Lawrence Predicted To Throw to Brian Thomas Jr. and Chris Godwin in 2025

Last year was one of Lawrence’s worst years as a pro. Before he was injured and out for the rest of the season, he ranked 31st in the PFN’s QB+ metric with a D. He threw for over 2,000 yards and just 11 touchdowns with seven interceptions.

The Jaguars have made it clear that Lawrence is in their future plans and have no plans to trade him and plan to rebuild their team around him. New Jaguars head coach Liam Coen made that perfectly clear in his opening press conference, as did Jacksonville’s owner Shahid Khan.

“Our commitment is to Trevor, I think it’s well known,” Khan said. “We believe in him.”

With the Jaguars clear on building their team around Lawrence, USA Today’s Cory Woodroof predicts them signing Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin, who had a $27.5 million cap hit in 2024, the fourth-highest among receivers in the NFL.

“The Buccaneers may have to bid farewell to Godwin, who could rejoin his 2024 offensive coordinator Liam Coen with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Having Godwin and breakout rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. would be a huge boost for quarterback Trevor Lawrence, and Jacksonville has the money to get this done and pay Godwin what he’s worth.”

Godwin has been out with an ankle injury since a Week 7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and is headed for free agency as the three-year, $60 million contract he signed before the 2022 season is set to expire.

Before suffering a dislocated ankle, Godwin was on pace for the best campaign of his NFL career, catching 50 passes for 576 yards and five touchdowns through seven games.

In 2023, Godwin played a full season slate for the first time since 2018, racking up 83 receptions for 1,024 yards and two touchdowns. Before 2024, he had accrued at least 80 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards in four out of five seasons from 2019-23. Seeing as he’ll turn 29 in late February, Godwin could be a perfect boost to Jacksonville’s offense.
