When Will Tyler Herro Return? Insider Reveals Upsetting News on Heat Star’s Injury

Here's all you need to know about the latest injury update involving Tyler Herro and his expected return to the Miami Heat.

The latest injury report on Tyler Herro is expected to disappoint Miami Heat fans. The past few seasons have been frustrating for the organization and its fan base. Despite making it to the 2020 and 2023 NBA Finals under Jimmy Butler’s leadership, Herro and the Heat lost both times, to the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets.

Since then, things have gone downhill for Miami. After Butler voiced his frustration with the franchise and was traded to the Golden State Warriors, it appeared the Heat would build their team around Herro and Bam Adebayo.

While that remains the tentative plan, Herro’s current status could cause a setback heading into next season.

When Will Miami Have Tyler Herro Active in the 2025–26 NBA Season?

Most teams that qualify for the playoffs start the regular season strong. Maintaining a winning record is an undeniable recipe for success. Although the Heat had hoped to do the same, Herro sustained a foot injury that required surgery.

According to senior NBA insider Shams Charania, the surgery is expected to keep Herro sidelined for eight weeks. As a result, he is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. “Miami Heat All-Star Tyler Herro is undergoing surgery on his left foot and will be sidelined to begin the 2025-26 season, sources tell ESPN,” Charania said.

Not only will Herro miss the start of the season, but he will also be unable to participate in preseason games and training camp. Given that he is considered the Heat’s best scorer, averaging just under 24 points a game last season, his absence is expected to significantly impact the team.

Although Miami could bounce back and make a playoff push even if Herro is sidelined for a month, there is no denying the team will face an uphill battle upon his return. Several Eastern Conference rivals, such as the Philadelphia 76ers, who battled injuries last season, will also be looking to establish themselves.

Following Butler’s departure, the Heat were expected to land a superstar via free agency or pursue a trade. However, they have been unable to do so in recent years, forcing Herro to shoulder more of the offensive load.

His recent surgery and expected slow start to the upcoming season will allow Miami to evaluate the rest of its roster and gauge player potential. Herro’s absence will also give several young players a chance to prove themselves. Fans are left wondering how the Heat will start next season without him on the court.
