Warriors Star Stephen Curry Admits 4-Time NBA Champion’s Shooting Form Is ‘Freaking Perfect’

Stephen Curry recently appeared on LeBron James and Steve Nash’s podcast, “Mind the Game.” In one segment of the podcast, Curry admitted that a four-time NBA champion’s shooting form was the best — better than his own. Curry then discussed how he manages to shoot as consistently as he does on a nightly basis.

Stephen Curry Applauds Former Warriors Teammate for His Incredible Shooting Form

Curry is undoubtedly one of the best shooters in NBA history. He’s known for his crazy long-distance shots, which ultimately influenced the league into what it is today. These days, most younger players tend to take outside shots, regardless of position.

However, while Curry is arguably the most prominent figure when it comes to 3-point shooting, the Golden State Warriors star believes someone else shoots better than he does.

Curry said he thinks his former Warriors teammate, Klay Thompson, has a better shooting stroke than he does. Curry then doubled down on his thoughts, saying he would rather teach young players how to shoot like Thompson than copy his own form.

“I would teach Klay’s form to anybody who says, ‘Hey, how do I shoot the basketball?’ Clips of Klay. That’s freaking perfect. 10 out of 10. No notes,” Curry said.

Curry and Thompson won four championships together with the Warriors, revolutionizing NBA shooting as the “Splash Brothers.” Their partnership ended when Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks last season, closing an 11-year run in Golden State.

While Curry suggested following Thompson’s shooting form, he elaborated on how he worked on his stroke and mastered outside shooting.

“It helped me off the dribble,” Curry said about how he learned how to shoot consistently. “It’s a one-piece shot that no matter if you’re all the way unbalanced or just off or if you got (the ball) on the right hand, left hand, off the dribble, like whatever it is, I can get it quick enough (to my shooting hand) and I still have all my power.”

Looking at Curry’s 17-year career in the league, he’s shooting a solid 42.3% from beyond the arc. He’s only 3.1% shy of tying his head coach, Steve Kerr, for the highest career three-point shooting percentage in NBA history. Kerr currently holds the record at 45.4%.

With that in mind, there’s no denying Curry’s greatness from beyond the arc. He’s proven that a player doesn’t need to have a perfect form like Thompson to become a great shooter. It’s all about rhythm and finding one’s comfort zone before releasing the ball.
