Tyler Herro is heating up at just the right time. With the Miami Heat gunning for a deep playoff run, the young guard is showing he’s not just a scorer, he’s ready to lead. And if you ask head coach Erik Spoelstra, Herro’s all-around game is starting to speak louder than ever.
Miami’s big win over the Chicago Bulls wasn’t just about survival in the play-in, it was a statement and Herro delivered it loud and clear. Needless to say, his performance spoke volumes, and Spoelstra definitely noticed.
Tyler Herro Gets Love From HC Erik Spoelstra
After the Heat’s dominant 109-90 win over the Bulls on Wednesday night, Erik Spoelstra took a moment to single out the guy who lit it all up—Herro.
“He is a great competitor,” Spo said. “He knew he has to bring, you know, a lot to this game. Offensively, he was there pretty much on every level, all game long.”
But it wasn’t just the scoring that impressed Miami’s coach. Herro’s effort on the other end of the floor caught his eye just as much.
Spo on Tyler: "He wants to prove he can be a two-way player. I love that about him… it was in a lot different ways… he's making a lot of those plays in between, unscripted. We've also been able to develop that games, which requires everybody seizing those moments." pic.twitter.com/efJiv27DER

“I think, you know, quietly, I thought he had a really good defensive game—and we need that,” Spoelstra added. “He wants to prove he can be a two-way player. I love that about him.”
That’s big praise from the coach, but Spoelstra wasn’t just talking about stats—he was pointing to the little things Herro’s doing more and more of.
“He’s making a lot of those plays in between, unscripted,” Spo said. “We’ve also been able to develop that part of his game, which requires everybody seizing those moments and seeing it, and developing that IQ to be able to get to that, to take advantage of the skill sets—particularly when he is off the ball. That’s taken some time.”
Spoelstra explained that Herro’s growth, especially off the ball, has taken some time. But now, he is a true force on the court.
“He is a highly skilled offensive player,” he finished, acknowledging Herro’s intensity on the court.
Hero on Rampage Game After Game
Spoelstra’s words weren’t just hype. Herro absolutely torched the Bulls. He dropped 38 points in the win, including 16 in the opening quarter alone. Besides, he went a perfect 8-of-8 from the field in the first half, helping the Heat build a monster 71-47 lead before the break.
Herro’s been red-hot lately too. His scoring over the last 11 games is absolutely stunning. Just look at this run – 38, 22, 30, 20, 35, 25, 27, 30, 36, and 20

Safe to say, he’s not just heating up—he’s on fire, and just at the right time.
Of course, it wasn’t all on Herro. Andrew Wiggins stepped up with 20 points, Davion Mitchell dished out nine assists with his 15 points off the bench, and Bam Adebayo added a solid double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
But make no mistake—this game belonged to Herro. From the opening tip, he looked like a man on a mission. The Bulls had no answers, and by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, it was already over.
Now, Miami turns its focus to the Atlanta Hawks. A win there sets them up with a first-round showdown against the top-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers. And if Herro keeps playing like this? The Heat might just have more fight in them than people thought.
